ok does anyone here have an affiliation with any HDD manufacturer HDD co.
i want to know why the click of death to a HDD occours. it hapepn to my fujitsu notebok 2.5 hdd. out of warranty so i openpend it expecting the platter is scratched of something or head crash,.

but after i open the hdd. left the top off (yes i did, wore googgles ) i saw that the needle draws to the centre then back to its sleep position thus this clicking nioise but i dont see any scratches on the mirror platters...

maybe the scratch is underneath thats why i have not seen it yet?

so my QS is the click of death coz of the needle failing or the motor have problem or the actual platter have a problem?? becuse even i open my HDD i cannot see where the problem lies or wat part is actually casuing this clicking noise

Post erased. What I thought was a joke apparently wasn't. To the OP: Sorry.

PS - Pull the hard drive magnets. They're fun to play with.

Go ahead and throw that drive away, it's totally useless now.

You could also tear it all the way down and use the platter as a shaving mirror or something, just create some form of backing for it so it doesn't shatter in your hand. Believe me on this, when they shatter they don't make big pieces...it's a hojillion little bitty fuckers that will be impossible to pick completely out of your carpet.

Anyway, it's probably just a head or motor crash. That's a rather moot point now though...

first reply = #edited out expletives#

second reply = ok so it was a faulty motor as i assumed so , it was jut a spare hdd so i thought i might try and repl the motor to see if i can at least reocver some data.

UICompE02: Let's keep things calm here, I think maybe there was just a bit of misunderstanding on what you were attempting to try on the part of the first reply

UlCompE02 doesn't have to do mod work very often around here. It must have been very bad to draw his attention. I will remind everyone involved that you are expected to remain current on the [thread=760666]Rules[/thread], especially #1. Not only does it dictate "no flaming, name calling, or personal attacks" it also states a clear expectation of "mutual respect and civilized conversation" We certainly have not seen that here. - DougLite

With all of the official stuff out of the way, once a HDD experiences the "click of death" it will never be accessible in a consumer computer system again. Professional data recovery firms like OnTrack can usually retrieve data from dead drives. Opening a hard drive's case will certainly destroy the drive, as even a speck of dust will damage the drive, tolerances are that tight.

I'll just quote someone: "Looks like this thread is drowning in red ink..." :p ◀ Best.Moderator.Line.Ever.

/me hides... ;)
