"Clear Screen" LCDs

Has anyone experienced the reflective/clearscreen type of LCDs? It is becoming more popular in Japan. The colors looks very vivid like CRT, panel thin as LCD (well it is LCD) but is a little too "vivid" and bright for me!

Those clear panel screens have found ways to Japanese laptops too.

Looks a lot like the Sony SDM-HS94P series screens, which if they are of the same technology, looks great to my eye =). Reflections generally aren't nearly what you would expect from a screen that looks like it could dub as your bathroom mirror.
 
One thing that I have noticed with the Sony though is that black levels are not nearly as good probably because the higher intensity backlighting blows it out more. Aside from that they look good.
 
Perhaps, hasn't really been an issue I've really noticed tho, either from not having a default monitor setup or just not noticing it =). As it comes out of the box, I'd agree tho. It was way too bright for me.
 
The Sony is way to bright out of the box. I have toyed with mine for days. I have the spyder pro calibration software and let me tell you, that after you get it right it is by far the best lcd I have ever seen. It calibrates really well. For those who care, back light set to 10, brightness at 41,contrast at 96 Color at 6500k and gamma at 2 gives this monitor color reproduction that is top notch.
 
I have the VP912b with this type of screen. It sucks and I am trying to return it through my credit card since Monitors Direct appears to have gone under.

The screen reflects everything, especially with a black background. The blacklight bleed is terrible on a black background, but that may be adjustable. The reflections are my real issue.

I'm going to really hate going back to my CRT, but I think LCDs still have a ways to go. The LCD can be positioned much better for easier viewing of the screen.

I have pretty close to the same settings jrb75, couldn't agree more =). I haven't really had any major reflections tho.. nothing more then my CRT gave me thats for sure. Must just be your ambient lighting, mine is usually very low, nothing directly in front of the monitor's view either. Backlight bleed, that however is an issue. I know the early sony's had that.. I got lucky and got a much later week one that doesn't have any bleed. Shame about monitorsdirect.. only people that had a decent monitor policy really.. guess you can only eat that up for so long.

I guess really what it comes down to is how much ambient light you have around, a lot and you probably won't like any monitor with this kinda screen.
