The one thats on the inside of the house, that chills the air.

I am posting here, cause some people use A/C based cooling for their PCs, and probably have to do what I'm dealing with with my window unit.

if a mod feels I'm in the wrong, then I shall appologize in advanced.

How can I clean the chilling radiator? The one that releases the heat on the back of the unit is easy to clean, I can just hose it out real good, but I can't do that with the front radiator.

And its NASTY. Its affecting the cooling of the AC and has...gook growing in it.

How can I clean this aside from cleaning in between each individual fin with a toothpick and a tissue?

You get a product that you spray into smelly car aircon units. I'm from South Africa so dont know what it would be called or if you get it over there, so you will have to search for it. Its probably a fungaside of some sort.

I would try it or chlorine mixed with water. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it in the evaporator's intake. Perhaps do both!
:)

Canned Air from a computer/electronics/Radio shack.
The real way to do it is take it out of the window, take the front faschia off (front plastic panel) and the main case off then spray some cleaner on the front of the evaporator to loosen up the gunk and blow it out from the back (inside to outside of unit) . That way you are blowing the gunk off the front evaparator instead of blowing it through and risking clogging some of the airways. The controls you need to worry about will be to the side or above the evaporator and you should miss them entirely but it would not hurt to let it sit in the sun for a hour or two before you plug it back in.

Probably get more response if you post this in the Extreme Cooling Systems forum :)

and rip the fragile aluminm fins to shreds.

What the hell are you talkin about? By stiff, I wasn't talking about metal brushes.

I clean out my air conditioner radiator with a stiff NYLON brush all the time and there's no damage whatsoever.
