cleaning the HSF and CPU?

What can I use locally to clean my HSF and CPU?
Will be re-using HSF and CPU and want a fresh coat of Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound, do I just add a grain of rice worth to the CPU and let the HSF spread the compound?

Just use high-purity isopropyl alcohol (preferably >90%), and a lint-free cloth. It'll work just as well as anything else. And you've got the paste application method right.

i think the ceramique TC you have to use a little more then a grain of rice since its a little thicker then what normal TC is.. me personally with either of them i just do the line down the middle.. works for me everytime and never fails.. with the grain of rice its just to much of a pain to make sure it covers the entire thing..

That Arcticlean stuff works amazingly well - I cleaned a copper heatsink first with alcohol, then with Arcticlean and the difference was faily large.

if you're gonna do this more than once every couple years, get it.

i use a q tip soaked in rubbing alcohol to clean the cpu off.
