Cleaning reservoir

I would use vinegar and then wash it out with distilled water. Don't use water you would get out of your sink, as it contains particles you don't want in your loop.

I used boiling distilled water to clean out the rads as well. However I didn't use vinegar for them. Just had to pour it into the rad until full, let it sit for 5-8min, then shake it, dump out water, and redo until water looks clear/clean.
 
You can rinse it out with tap water as long as the last couple rinses are with distilled. This way you don't too much precious distilled water.
 
I just changed my loop and tubes over the weekend.

I have a Swiftech Micro-Res, among other things.

I took the stuff apart, mixed up a very dilute solution of Chlorine bleach in distilled......about 5oz in a gallon........and used it as a rinse/wash solution in everything.
My Res had a little residue in it so I used a bottle brush to get it clean and then rinsed clear with distilled water/bleach.

Several final rinses were done with distilled water.

If you use dilute Chlorine you won't destroy anything, as long as you rinse throughly afterward. Don't be shocked.....chlorine has been used in swimming pools for decades as a disinfectant, and it's great at it. You just can't use a strong concentration. A thought might be also to use dilute Betadine (iodine) but I'd be afraid it might discolor things.
I use that solution on the inner workings of my blocks as well.

It will kill any algae and assorted bacteria that can develope in the Loop.
Of course I used brand new tubing.
I generally use plain distilled water and silver coils in my loop, no additives.
 
Do not use ANY vinegar. Apple based vinager has sugars that will run your cooling loop. Use Distilled "White Vinegar" mixed with a little distilled water. An no, you do not need to boil distilled water, that is where it came from ... the hot steam. :)

I think they were just referring to using "hot" distilled water vs "cold" distilled water.

Agreed, but what would heating it accomplish, except for the chance to burn your fingers???

If the tought was to further "sterilize" the distilled water, the pan or pot contains impurities that could potentially FUBAR that deal, right there.:eek:
 
Hot water will remove sediments, coloring gunk and anything else easier.

That's why were always told to wash our hands with warm water. :p :D :cool:
