Cleaning LCD's

I wanted to ask some of the LCD display experts what is the best (and safest) way to clean your LCD monitor. What kind of wipes or solutions and material to use?

most use a shammie sp* cloth.......micro fiber and water/soap, or just windex, or just buy a kit from any major eletronics store.......10 bucks for 50 sheets with cleaning junk on it

DO NOT USE WINDEX, it contains ammonia, which is BAD for the anti-glare coating on your lcd

Windex can and probably will damage your LCD. You should just use a soft lint free cloth thats slightly damp with water. Probably shouldn't have the display on either, but I find it easier to see if I missed anything if it is.

I personally use my Oakley microfiber bag and water.

Basically for monitor cleaning I would recommend using anything that is used on optics. Like lens cleaner (not to be confused with contact cleaner), lens paper, etc.

50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water on a very soft cloth works the best. The kind of cloths you use to clean glasses or big screen TV's are the good type.

Simple and effective.

Me personally... I use steel wool. It's the only way to get the really tough dust off the screen.

i guess if u can spend ur money on something like that, mine as well.
maybe i shouldnt be saying anything since i have a 512mb gtx...
i've been using vinegar based windex on my viewsonic ps790 since i got it 5-6 years ago and it has kept the screen looking brand new.

No, ammonia is what you shouldn't use, isopropyl alcohol will do no harm. In fact IBM, Apple, and Dell all specifically say isopropyl alcohol and water mix is recommended.

^^^^ This is what i've been reading for years as well though the info i read was geared towards crt screens.

Yep, windex with ammonia totally ruined my old crt's anti-glare coating, the glass is permanently streaked. Took a few wipe-downs to get it that way though i did scrub kinda hard a coupla times (I thought it would wipe away the streaks!)

This is what I use. Water definitely won't hurt your LCD (as long as you use very little ) and microfibers pick up any dirt and oil. I don't use an Oakley though, just a plain 'ole microfiber cloth.
