Well I have a old 1 GHz amd processor that had a stock hsf mounted on it. I took the hsf off and some of the gunk is still on there, any ideas on how to get it off. Oh and no, it isnt artic silver, its the stock stuff that came pre applied on the hsf.

Use some 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and Q-tips to clean the core of the CPU. For the bottom of the HSF, a paper towel with the alcohol dabbed on it should work.

i had some 70% stuff, and used a paper towel and had to scrub the stuff off, i dont think its going to come off that easy, and mine was an axp2100, and the athlon is probly nearly 3 years old.

I went with "ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL:99.953% pure Anhydrous" by MG chemicals available at the local Fry's Electronics. Also bought some "startic free" Q-tips type stuff aswell. Did a good job.

Acetone (nail polish remover) works very good too. Just make sure you use some without a fragrance.

Does it really matter if I use a lint free cloth or not thought? I'd imagine a little lint cant hurt it =/

be careful with isopropyl!! the other 9% is aromatics and stuff that does not belong on any electronic components. if u have to use an alcohol use ethanol. ur best bet is to find a electronic parts store or what i call a radio shop and they have all kinda cleaners designed for electronics.

q-tips are made of cotton fibers that can attach to anything they meant to clean. they have a qtip-like product that has sythetic fibers that do not come off the swab. these to are at the radio shop and some computer supply houses

gawd!!!
i just saw my first post, wtf is that 'Newbie Cheeze' pahooie? how many post before it goes?

LOL, you have a ways to go. :D

I also use 70% Isopropyl on my processors. Many say to use 90% but the lower concentration gets the job done perfectly. ;)
