Clean up some audio

I have some audio from my tape recorder that I have transferred into my pc, however there's a little static "hissing" noise. How can I clean that up?
 
I already have audacity, but I have no idea what to do in there. :cool:
 
Try here, specifically step 4. Looks pretty straightforward, though I haven't tried it yet. Let us know if it works.
 
I've been using SoundForge and the Noise Reduction plugin for many years now, hasn't failed me yet. Audacity is great for what it is, and most people won't even care really about that level of quality so you'll most likely get acceptable results from the noise reduction it offers.

If you want it done right, however, it'll either cost you money to get better tools or find someone to help out and work on the files for you. :D
