Moving my hardware from a Lian-Li V1000 to a p182 which I got from frys for $50AR :D. I really liked the V1000, but I sleep in the same room as my computer and the light shining through the window can get annoying. Anyway, I wanted to keep this thing as clean as possible so the first thing I did was remove the extra cables that I didn't need. I didn't feel bad about doing this because the PSU, while still good, is outdated in terms of the connectors (only 4pin mobo connector and no pcie connectors). I plan on reusing it later in a low power media center and won't miss those cables anyhow.

In order to run the PCIe power cables under my mobo, I had to ghettorig and extension to it which was made by recycling the cables cut from the PSU:

You can turn the HDD in the middle cage backwards to clean the wires up a bit. Just barely clears the 8800GT:


Eventually I might cut a slot so that I can route the SATA cables a little more neatly, but for now, it doesn't bother me:

I have to say, I am really impressed with the results. Even though both the CPU and GPU are passively cooled, they remain nice and chilly. I am currently running GPU burn and Prime95. With the fans on the high setting the temperatures stabilize at 47, medium at 51, and low at 55. At the low speed, the computer is absolutely silent except for HDD noise. This is of course much more demanding than normal use and even the most intense games would not be stressing the system and producing this much heat. Idle temps are in the low 30's which is awesome. It can idle, I can do work, etc with the fans on low and use the handy switch that comes on the back of the p182 to turn the tricools up a notch for a crysis sesh. Couldn't be happier with the ninja and accelero S1, both of which are new additions.

It does look incredibly clean, but im abit worried about drive temperatures, do you have a way of monitoring them?

Also you should tape shut the vents around the psu back panel to ensure maximum airflow past the drives.

Wibla - I have to check the RocketRaid BIOS to see if there is a temp monitoring function because Everest does not give me a temp reading. I have read from a number of other owners that the bottom fan is not necessary. I can feel cold air coming into the case at the bottom filter so I think it's fine, but I will look into taping the vents shut.

I think the next move would be to get one of those acoustic mats (kinda like this stuff http://www.frozencpu.com/products/3..._Dampening_Material.html?tl=g33c117s208#blank) and use that to completely separate the lower and upper chambers and ensure maximum airflow past the drives. But again, I think that is more precautionary than necessary.
 
Open the side and feel the drives, gives you a ballpark idea of how they're running.. not that running the drives a tad hot is a BAD thing as such, as long as they're below 45C..

You dont need any fancy stuff to divide the two chambers, just some cardboard cut to size :D
 
just opened it up and they feel just barely warm to the touch, actually cooler than I expected and much cooler than they were in my V1000 which is surprising considering there was a 120mm fan blowing straight on those (although it was only running at 5V).

Hahahah as far as the cardboard goes, I think I'll try to keep my case out of the post your ghetto mod pics as much as possible :p
......although one of those 30 pack dividers might work perfectly....
