In the near future, we will be releasing some new projects which require a very rapid turn-around time. These are peptide fragment simulations which we are interested in simulating for a time-sensitive collaborative project involving protein structure prediction.

These WUs will go directly to the classic clients running with -advmethods. Non-classic clients (eg SMP, GPU, PS3) will not be affected, as all of these calculations will be run via the AMBER core and only the classic client supports the AMBER core.

To reward users for participating in this exciting project, we will be giving a x1.5 bonus in the points awarded. What's the catch? These projects will be less rigorously beta tested, so there will be an increased risk of Early_Unit_End errors. We believe the risk of this is minor (there will likely be a higher rate of early unit ends, especially very early in the WU, but we do not expect client machines to become significantly less stable). However, if you do not wish to participate in this project, just remove the -advmethods setting from your client.

This will not last forever and will likely go back to normal -advmethods usage in a few months. With that said, we do plan other uses for -adv in the future.

I dont think Ambers use SSE2 boost so you're just going to get the bonus ontop of the standard client score.
So I'd guess 75-200 PpDpGhz depending on your CPU type.

After rereading the first post I hope they don't make the deadlines overly tight, i'd hate to see anything < than say a 2.8ghz P4 miss the deadlines, that would suck.

Hopefully my borg will be picking these up soon.... may merit a trip out to the clinic to check up on my boxen this weekend and see how things are going!!

I'll check my single clients boxens to make sure advmethods is enabled. The project numbers to watch is 3036 and 3037.

Well, the work unit my P4 2.4 GHz is working on was downloaded on 4/23 and has a preferred deadline of 5/13. I'm sure they could make that a few weeks tighter and I wouldn't miss any deadlines.


 
Other than a few stray borgs I got all mine double checked this morning. Was surprised at how many were still on older clients as well. Upgraded all to 504 and even had 2 older dual proc servers running just a single instance. Now running 2 instances each. :) Was also pleasantly surprised to discover that all of my console clients are actually working on 200+ point work units. :D

If this is an accurate estimation, then it will still be preferable to run the SMP client for those systems that can. I might move my socket-A infrastructure to the standard client, though. Those systems are borderline and will be retired by the end of the year anyway.

They will be benchmarked on the standard P4 box at 40 PpHpGhz.
So add the bonus and a P4 should give 60 PpHpGhz.

My old socket A boxen where around 50% faster then the P4, Points per Ghz wise.
So your probably looking close to the 100 PpHpGhz mark.

A C2D system may get close to the 200 PpDpGhz mark.

It probably close but I'd like to see how accurate my guessimate is as well.

I'm hoping the P4 650 (3.4 GHz/2MB) I'm running chews through these new units.

I don't have much hope for the 2.4 GHz Northwood but we'll see.

 
I would like to see my P4 dual core system here at work pick up a couple of these. With each core at 3Ghz, it's only doing about 240PPD combined. I also noticed with my old P4 2.8 here at work that it did much better PPD with Amber core work units than it did with the gromacs work units. The gromacs work units on a P4 2.8 might do 100PPD if I was lucky. The amber cores would do 140-160PPD if I remember correctly.

Hell, I would be happy if I could grab some of the old 600 and 364 point gromacs work units, although they aren't worth that much anymore since Stanford dropped what they were worth over a year ago. They are still some of the best PPD, though.
