Soo for about a month I've been reading the posts around here and i finally decided to get an account. Im looking very hard and seriously about building a micro atx gaming/video editing pc.

I want to know what is the absolute best mATX board there is. Theres the Asus P5E-VM HDMI and the ASUS M3N78-VM, GIGABYTE GA-MA78GPM-DS2H... but which one is the best, i dont care what kind of socket it is. Or if it's easier which one is the best overclocker, the best for a htpc, ect.
 
P5E VM HDMI is the current intel king.

not sure how the AMD boards rank.

I think some newer chipset boards are right around the corner.
 
You have to look at each mobo and see what it has. There isnt a single mobo that has everything for every single person out there. Such a mobo doesnt exist. As far as a Intel chipset mobo with best overall overclocking performance the P5E-VM HDMI is generally considered top mobo right now. It does have its quirks and problems like all mobos do though.

DFI is getting ready to roll out its new G45 mATX CF mobo. Release is end of July and stores should have them the first week or two of August according to latest info. It may knock the P5E-VM HDMI to second place but we wont know that till they come out and users can get their hands on one for testing. Rumor has it (read: rumor) that DFI is to make a SLI model as well but so far that hasnt materialized. DFI is expected to roll out more mATX mobos end of August, beginning September, supposedly, so we'll have to wait and see then if such rumors are founded or not.

Considering how competitive ASUS and Gigabyte are in the mATX sector I'm thinking they'll have something new (G45) around this time as well. So far though there hasnt been any info as to what or when that I've seen.
