Well my friend has a dell 8400 i think it is, and its a clamshell which is uber cool to open. Was wondering if anybody has ever modded a case like this, or knows if this could be done because we wanted to put a window into it. :D

get yourself something that cuts and go for it. Starting something is the best way to finish it. If that makes any sense :)
 
It'd be kinda tricky, since the drive cages are mounted to the side of the case, but if you cut a window behind that point on the window you should be okay as long as you're willing to cut through all the layers. The case itself is just a metal chassis with plastic crap attached, that plastic crap happens to make the total thickness of the side panel about half an inch. So it'd be dificult to make it look good, but if you're up to the challenge, then go for it, this mod is one I'd really like to see :) be sure to post pics if you manage it.
 
The other problem is the case is built in sections and has the inner shell as steel, and the outer shell as plastic that attaches to the steel understructure... Essentially you will have to cut two holes in different kinds of material and make it look nice with some sort of molding to cover up the seperated are between the plastic out shell and the steel shell. Hope that makes sense...

I havent seen someone do it yet, but have at it...
