Civilization IV Complete - $19.99 on Steam

Just bought Civ4 (not complete...) for $5 at D2D. :(

Guess I'll have two copies.

Does anyone know if Colonization is any good? I already own Civ4 and the BTS expansion (CD version), but for the price....

I haven't played it lots, but i think its pretty much the same except think Age of Empires 3, where you can go back to your mother country and get supplies and shit.

I think it's great. There are big differences between civ and colonization. One of the biggest differences is the way the city screens and specialists work. Also there is a lot more stuff to produce. I really like both games. Colonization is like a game I used to play as a kid Conquest of the New World.

You sold me.

Steam needs to quit having these 50% off deals. I'm buying more games than I have time to play. I just picked up Empire: Total War and now I have to divide my time between it and Colonization. The wife is sure to love this. :D

daaammmiitt. They keep putting stuff up that I must buy. This is like the 8th day in a row I've made a purchase or preorder on steam.

For 20 bucks it's totally worth it. I don't have Warlords or BTS. But I have Civ IV and Colonization. I got Colonization for around 15 when Circuit CIty was closing...it was a great deal. I really wish I had the money to jump on this deal. The Civilization series is one of my top two favorite game series (myst is the other). I have all but Civ 1 and all but the very last Myst game.

is colonization really that good? when it came out, the reviews werent *great*, and so I figured it was a letdown....

*huge Civ fan

The thing you have to keep in mind about Colonization is that it isn't a Civ clone. It borrows some concepts, but there aren't the options for type of government and all of that. As I said above, the exploration is pretty generic in most of those types of games, and the city screen for colonization is quite different than civ. One of the other big differences is that you aren't completely on your own, at least at first you have someone you can call on for help if you start getting attacked, or need help of some kind. Also, the goal of the game is quite different (independence) so the way you build a city is going to be different as well. You have to keep in mind, even though the name on the game is "Civ IV" it is only very loosely related to the Civ series. If you want to get some clue about game play you can check out freecol which is a free game based off of the original Colonization game. I'd say the 20 bucks was worth it just for a complete Civ IV package (I already own half the games and would pick it up for just the two expansions if I could afford it) just think of Colonization as a free bonus.

If you look at this page http://www.colonizationfans.com/civilization-iv-colonization/screenshots.html you can see some screenshots that sort of explain what I mean about the way the city screen works being different.

I'm a big civ4 fan but didn't really get into Colonization much. It only takes place in one time period, and I always liked the huge scope of the civ4 game. As a colonial-era game, it is still quite good, but it is what it is.

Good deal, I've been waiting for this since the last sale which was $29.99 and even then I thought it was a good deal!

*sigh* it figures. I just bought this last friday for $32 (20% off coupon on Impulse). Well it's an excellent game, well worth the money, but be warned you will be spending lots of time playing especially if you get into it.

I've been watching it since it was released too, and as far as I saw the main complaint was that the game was pretty buggy initially. I did some quick research before jumping on the deal yesterday and it seems that most of the big issues have been worked out.

Colonization is really nothing like civ4 you are comparing apples and oranges. As far as games go, comparing to something like AD 1401 would be slightly more accurate, but even that isn't a very good comparison. In a lot of ways I think firaxis did a disservice by labelling the game as part of the civ4 series because then people anchor to that idea rather than letting the game stand alone. I guess my point is...don't let the title trick you. You need to evaluate the game on it's own merits and not as anything related to the civ series at all.

Can you mod from steam and update using patch through some where other than steam?

I bought Evil Genius from them a while back and the version seem to be an older version and there is a newer patch but steam doesn't patch it. So I download the newer patch off the internet and try to apply it but it doesn't seem to take affect.

That and modding is why i'm a bit warry about buying from steam.
