I can only afford to get one other game out of these two until Oblivion comes out. I know I should be able to make up my own mind, but just wanted to see what those of you say who have these games. I absolutely loved the CoD 2 demo though.

I would go for Civ4... not only because of its high replayability, but the fact that it's a lot more original than CoD2... but that's just me... I'm bored of today's shooters.

I'm biased so I'm going to say COD2. I've been playing the game 20 of the last 48 hours.

How many FPS do you have? How often do you play the older ones? If the answer to the first 1 is alot and the answer to the second one is not often then i say get Civ 4

If you do decide to go for COD2, I have a copy that I have played, but have not registered that I will put up in the FS/FT forums soon. On terms of your question though, get Civ 4 if you are more of a single-player gamer like myself; the single player in COD2 is good, but not spectacular, and it is likely to be better as a multiplayer game. Civ 4 also has infinite replayability.

If you liked Civ 2 and Civ 3 then there is NO question you'll love Civ 4. Wow, this game is a huge step forward.

Civ 4, there are just so many different cituations you can play its insane

and multiplayer is pretty sweet too

what else can you compare CiV 4 too? ive never played an CiV at all

Well, I'm not sure... I don't think there are any other turn-based strategy games that come close? Regardless, I think you'll have a lot more fun with Civ 4 than you would with some generic WW2 shooter - you haven't had enough of those yet?

call of duty 2 ! its not just any ww2 game. its THE BEST ww2 game out there. the multiplayer is just AWESOME! .. the game is soo chaotic.

A shooter is a shooter is a ww2 shooter. CoD 2 will be in the discount bins by Christmas. Games like Civ4 don't come along very often, so you can bet that it will offer you something much more unique than a ww2 shooter. Unless you're looking for multiplayer frag fests. Just my opinion.

Hmm...should you eat apples or oranges....

Might as well had asked that question.

COMPLETELY different genres.

Personally, I've never liked RTS/TBS games up until I played Dragonshard
recently, so my immediate recommendation would be CoD2.
And actually, since I've never played the Civ series, that would *still*
be my recommendation.

But I also recommend eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day,
6-11 servings of carbs (Atkins be damned), 3-5 servings of meat and
watching your intake of fats and sugars.

Again...that's just me.

I would get COD2 imo. Right now it sits as the PC GOTYagain, imo. Best looking engine available at this time. The russian cityscapes are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Most of the screenies and previews of this game came from the egypt scenario so I want all that impressed, but that snow and those buildings are something to behold, that is if you have the right video card. ;)

Well, i played civ 4 around 6 hours last night, and greatly enjoyed all of it, but id say COD2. IMO, Civ is just as repetitive as every other game out there.

Civilization is a vestige, a relic of older games. It's not graphically stunning nor realistic, the graphics are more like games from 10 years ago, it's more like a turn-based boardgame that can go on forever and be very addicting. It's very slow though, and not even anything like a RTS or Sim City.

Really, the closest thing you can compare it to is a board-game.

COD2 - while looking great visually has the same gameplay and totally annoying companion soldiers - I wish they would shut up!!! What pissed me off the most about the COD series though in the end, is the realisation that the computer cheats in many situations. Unless you advance forward in an area, the computer will just keep generating enemy soldiers to attack you, so in effect, the war is fake and will never end, nomatter how many you kill - and with the numbers you kill in this game, it becomes silly eventually. There's no reward in hitting a target when you know they are infinitely generated computer canon-fodder. There's no skill involved at all. And if you jack up the difficulty it just means the computer generated infinity of soldiers will just all aim for you and they will have perfect aim, making the game next to impossible in some missions because your own companion soldiers will still have stupid AI and make you go first in every situation.
