Is this game any good as a replacement for Sim City until February? SimCity 4 has become stale for me as of late...after all, I've been playing it for 7 years now.

If you haven't played any of the other Cities XL, there's enough there to enjoy separate of Sim City 4. Cities XL plays a lot more on social/economic classes, much more like the Anno xxxx games in that regard.

They've been very iterative over the last 3 years though, if all you need is something to screw around with until Sim City 5 is out, you can probably pick up Cities XL 2011 or even 2010 and save yourself $20-30 and not miss out on much.

I was hoping to pick up 2012 for around $20, but it seems like it goes for about 30-40. Cities XL 11 seems to be an option at $20...time to read up and see what I would miss out on.

Great game, but no multicore support is a total game breaker.

just buy 2011, download the update and you have the same game as 2012. if your die hard sim city fan you'll hate citiesXL but if you aren't it'll hold you over for at least a month.

2011 version does but 2012 does not according to the Steam big DRM list.

it does, only the steam version doesn't. its the exact same game as 2011 except with the small update they released for 2011 included.
