I'd like to get a voice router for my lab/home. CME and CUE support would be stellar. I'll also need at least 1 FXO port. I'd like to keep the price as low as possible, so I'll probably be looking at eBay.

What router and VWIC/AIM/etc cards would you recommend? 1800 and 1900 series routers are way out of my price range for this. I already have the phones and switches, so no need for recommendations on those.

1800 and 1900s don't do CME anyway. 2600XMs and 3640s can do voice, but I would (and did) go with a 3725.

you sure vito, i just checked some IOS images on cisco and i seen CME version 7.0 and 8.0 listed...... but 2600XM's are great for voice, slightly older versions though.

Yea, I looked that up earlier. The 1861 does 15 phones and SRST. Looks like one of the little Unity boxes.

So I'll amend what I said and I'll say that most 1800s and 1900s won't do voice. It is pretty cool that the 1861 does though, I'd never heard of it before today.

:D

Always good to learn something new.

I went for an all-in-one solution myself.. Cable Modem, Router, Wireless, and Voice all in one box.

Cisco 2801
PVDM2-8
VIC2-2FXO
HWIC-AP-AG-B
WIC-1ADSL
HWIC-CABLE-D-2

It was cheaper then an 1861 or 3725 for me, and supports CME 8.0

Oh, I didnt read that 1800/1900 is out of price range.. that would place the 2801 up there too..

Prior to this, I had a 1760V with a PVDM and VIC-2FXO, the whole lot could be had for about $150-200 on teh ebay.

This will sound odd, but for home use, I'd take a 3725 over a 2801. 2800s are loud as hell. Having one in a home office (speaking from experience) sucks, I ended up pulling my 2801 and putting my 3725 back in place because the 2800s are soo friggin' loud.

I've been looking at doing this at home for a while now. I already had a 3725 so I've been pricing out the parts. So far seems to be one of the cheaper routes to have a router that acts as your gateway and voice.

Here's what I'm Planning:

Cisco 3725 (Already Have)
VIC-2FXO-M1 = $50 - $60 Ebay
VIX-2FXS = ~ $50 Ebay
CME 7.0

Suppose the biggest expense would be the 3725. Like Vito is saying. Runs quieter than the 2800's.
