Hi again, my cisco router is crashing and i simply dont know why, dont know if anything similar happened to any of you, but if it did, maybe you can help.

The case is, my ISP drops the connection every 36 hours, to change ip address, when this happens the cisco simply crashes, and reboots. I would like to avoid this...

If you need any more info just ask

Cheers

the model of Cisco router, as well as the version of software you are running, would both be helpful information.

You might also want to post your "show run" info.
You can also post on the Cisco forums for help. Those guys a really good, free help (same goes for [H], but you will probably get more help from the Cisco forums).

Your IOS is rather old; first thing I'd do is try upgrading the software.

ADVANCED IP SERVICES
c180x-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T1.bin
Release Date: 23/Jun/2009
Size: 23114.29 KB (23669032 bytes)
Minimum Memory: DRAM:256 MB Flash:64 MB

is the latest

I can't believe a config would crash the router, so it's either a hardware problem or IOS bug. Start with updating IOS. 12.4.15T10 is pretty solid.

I would upgrade IOS if i could find one for this router, i bought this on Ebay, so i dont have any kind of access to cisco website to download the latest IOS. Second i only have 128mb ram, i bought more 128 ram, wich will arrive next week. Dont know if its possible, but if someone could get me a IOS that could run with just 128mb ram and 32mb flash i would aprecciate it.

Cheers

P.S. - Spoke too early, got a 12.4 15T8, dont know if its rock solid but ill test it

Hes not going to get much help on there, especially with the description of the issue he gave.

Really? So you can't believe that when you configure a software tunnel(sub TE), and a specially crafted packet is sent over that tunnel is would cause the router to crash? Check out the PRIST's my friend, they are released by Cisco for a reason.

Not even close, how about FIRST starting off with a FULL show tech. Also, any tracebacks when the router crashes? Constant reboot, whats displays on the screen? If you want to find root cuase you're going to need to dig, anyone can just slap a new IOS on their router and fix the visible issue but at the same time potentially opening up new ones and breaking things that worked.

Also, get off the T train unless you absolutely require it(which im guessing you dont). Mainline is MUCH more stable and will have almost all the features that the T train will have.

I'd also be interested to see what exactly is causing the problem instead of just just paving over the problem with a new IOS.

Post the crashdump file. It's stored in flash; unless it crashed so hard that it couldn't write it or you're out of space.

I don't believe he is using that though. I assume his post included most of the juicy config options, so I'm taking the OP's word on that. I don't see anything out of the ordinary, although a full config would be nice.
