Has anyone here ever tried hot-swapping Cisco components? I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to hot-swap T1 WICs on a 3725 router that I have.

I've seen this question asked before. I think the response was 50/50 for and against it.

OMFG whoever said "for" is a moron.

You hot swap a T1 ESU and youll get 2 things.. either a crashed OS if your REALLY REALLY lucky, or the more likely possibility of a FRIED backplane.

You right. The topic was about blades not the WICs. Sorry.

Its dependant on the OS to be honest... Is this a hybrid? CAT OS? regular cisco IOS?

Hot swaping blades always has the possibility of bringing down an OS.

it would definitely not be a good idea, but if you try tape it and post the video :)

Router components (WIC's, VIC's, HWIC's, NM's), NO

Switch components (Blades), MAYBE

It's a bad idea unless you have 150 servers that need to be up. It's better to inform the users that there may be an outage during that time get their approval, and then hotswap the blade. If it go's down it was a planned outage if it doesent you did not affect anyone.

No matter how much communication you put out a quantity of people allways miss it and it will have some affect. If you can avoid it then that's a good thing.
