Hey. I have a switch here that had the tower that was next to the building struck by lightning then traveled through the wires into the building and through the cat5 cabling. So right now I have this:

So with that it shows me 4 ports on the switch that are always orange. If I plug anything it, it's orange and never goes green ( I plugged in another 2950 w/ a crossover and the working 2950 has a green link but the broken 2950 has a orange link that flashes a little bit) on some ports the orange is a dark orange and others it's a light orange.
I can ping the switch and the devices that plug into the switch can access the network (as long as I'm not using one of the 4 broken ports. I'm not sure why these ports are all orange, also is there a way to fix the broken ports without sending it to Cisco or are those ports unfixable.
Thanks

i'm not much of an electronics expert, but i've never seen anything come back from getting hit by lightning.

Probably more trouble/time that it's worth to fix it.

Anything that's damaged, and suspect to be from a power surge and/or lightening...I either seek to get replaced under warranty, or...replace with new one..and toss in the trash.

Even if it somewhat works now....from my experience, things will get flakey down the road. It's more likely to have troubles.

I see the problem... there are smiley faces in your switch!

file a claim with your insurance company

2nd that.

I have one customer that has had 3-4 Cisco 3550's get hit by lightning and look exactly like that. Nothing you can do, either have smartnet on them and get them replaced, or file an insurance claim.
