Cisco 1130ag Problem Power

We have a New Cisco 1130ag that we just purchased with a af compliant power injector but for some reason i cannot get it to properly power up it keeps coming up in low power mode.

Any ideas?
 
Tired the cable but still no luck any other ideas? I can get to the cisco web gui but it says low power

Using a Cisco Air-pwrinj3 power injector with the stock power supply that came with the unit. From what i can tell from cisco every thing is golden but still get the low power message.

don't happen to have another injector, or a switch that does POE? I would say faulty power injector, try taking a multimeter to it?
 
Well i have a cisco switch that does poe and it works fine but if i plug it into my other poe switch the same problem arises very confusing
 
I've run into that problem before. It isn't negotiating power correctly. I'm guessing your "other" POE switch is a 3524XL-PWR?? Go into the Web GUI and go to system configuration and there is a power setting in there somewhere, you have to set it to the other option than is default. Can't remember what it is off-hand and I don't have access to one at the moment otherwise I'd take a screen shot. :D

You could force the power on the PoE switch.

The command is "power inline consumption <power in mw here>"

Can be used in global or interface config mode.

If you have a 3524, I'm not sure if that command will work. It's been a while since I've used a 3524.
 
let me be more clear, it's a setting on the AP itself, has nothing to do with the switch. I had some 1131ag access points that drew more power than the 3524XL is capable of delivering per port which is documented on their site. Then we used a bunch of old power injectors that the client had laying around instead. Had to set the the power option on the AP to, I think, pre-standard negotiation or something and then they fired right up.

The 3524XL is capable of delivering 15W per port, so there is no way a 1131AG will draw more power than that, and they only draw 12.2w, 12.95w at power up. (Not to mention there are very few devices and switches that will provide more than 15.4w per port)

The only problem that could be happening, is that 1131 for some reason is ONLY using 802.3af to receiver power. The 3524XL is pre-standard PoE only. It does not support 802.3af PoE.

In theory, the AP shouldn't power up at all, if it's using only 802.3af and a 3524XL. Considering the way that Cisco pre-standard PoE works. Cisco may have some failsafe/catch all on the AP to allow it to receive minimal power from a pre-standard device, even though the setting on the AP is set to 802.3af

EDIT: Either I didn't see the last line or ninja edit. At any rate, changing the setting on the ap to pre-standard "should" work.

Also, my previous post doesn't work on a 3524XL, just tried it. Berg0 is correct, the only options are "auto" and "never".

Well here is the deal im trying to use this in a building that has no POE which is why im trying to get the power injector to work. I assumed that with Cisco's own injector it would power up fine but using that or even using a off brand af compliant injector i still cannot power the device
 
Yeah sorry still not working tried with two access points get the same problem.
 
Got another Power injector still not working. I dont know if this helps but if i plug directly into the 1130 access point and let it sit everything lights up green but as soon as i plug it into the Cisco 2948G it turns orange.
 
did you check the power settings on the AP? set to pre-standard from the sys config page and that should work for you.

I have had this problem with a 1131 and a Netgear PoE switch, setting the power configuration to "Pre-standard" worked just fine for me. It was hit & miss in my last deployment, some were fine, others complained (seemingly the long cable runs).

I would also re-terminate both ends of your cable and make sure you don't have a loose connection which could be causing the problem. Also test & look for shorts with a laptop that has a broadcom testing suite or similar.

The 1131 AP will power up & work normally if only connected via an ethernet cable to the injector on the 'AP' port?

When you plug a ethernet cable from the 'network' side of the injector into your 2948 switch, the 'status ring' goes orange?

You are only providing one source of power via PoE?

Any way you can pull the event log and show us what the error is when it goes from green to orange?

Yes my cisco 2948 is not POE i have the injector connected to this and two the access point in the correct sockets
When i plug in the network side of the injector the status goes orange.
