...and I would like to hear your experiences with their customer service, so I can know what to expect on Monday.

I ordered a BFG PCI-Express 6800GTOC on 1/3, knowing it was back ordered. It finally arrived yestarday. I eagerly tore open the package - but it did not look quite right. Turns out, they sent my a AGP 6600GT. All of my materials, order forms, emails, etc. say the correct card, but there, on the box, big as life, it says "6600GTOC".

Only the fact that my 510 Turbo Cool power supply is not yet here has kept me calm.

Anyway, I am going to (calmly and politely, at first) demand a new, correct card drop shipped, a fex-ex number, and a cross-ship. Are these people cool, or am I going to have to let AMEX take me up there to break off a foot in their asses?

Never dealt with Chumbo, but I am shocked someone would have messed up an order so bad. Sending someone a wrong video card is asking for trouble LOL. Either they seriously messed up or someone was trying to shave $100 off their bottom line by trying to screw you.

Take a peek at what others have to say about them:

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1933.html

Looks like they are pretty good overall. They seemed to have a few disgruntled customers before the new year but now it seems pretty good.

its probably for reverse-engineering purposes.. so he'll steal the secrets of ATI which he puts down so much

heh heh heh

There have been lots of horror stories dealing with chumbo here in the forums. I've never dealt with them personally... but I don't think I ever want to.

Same thing happend to me, ordered the 6800 GT pci-e and got a 6600 GT agp. If your exchange goes as well as mine, you'll have nothing to worry about.

I called them first thing the next day and they said it wouldn't be a problem, they shipped the 6800 GT out with overnight delivery. It didnt sound like I was the first one that had called about the problem (i'm pretty sure that I read that someone else had this happen as well). I now have my 6800 GT and they included a pre-paid fedex label to send the 6600 back. I'll admit, I was a "bit" perturbed when I found the 6600 instead of the 6800... good thing I had to wait until the morning to call them.

Hope your exchange goes as well as mine.

lol, they are testing customers - what if one of them wouldn't know the difference? :D

LOL, even ignoring that it's a 6600 GT for a 6800 GT, I wonder what would happen if some ultra-n00b would have said "what the hell, I bet it will work!" and shoved that sucker into the motherboard...remember, they sent him a 6600 GT AGP card. :D

I'd just call them, and get it fixed.

I've bought several things from Chumbo in the past, and they've always treated me well.

Well, Chumbo will be held reponsible for a ruined mobo, too :D

Well, I'm bias. Got my PCIe BFG for retail with free 2 day shipping. Thought it was too good to be true but indeed not.

LOL....It would be pretty funny to find out how many users have gotten a 6600GT in place of a 6800GT and weren't even aware of it.

Who are you and what the hell did you do with the real burningrave????
 :p

Just because i put down certain products doesn't mean i dont use their products. I've always had pretty good reasons for supporting a product over another and when i get ticked off at something a company is doing then i tend to put them down a little more often :).

ATI just better not throw me for a ringer with the X800XL and X850XT PE like they did with the X800XT PE pre-orders.

So, how has Chumbo screwed you? I fail to see the part where they screwed you mentioned in your post.
Every company makes errors now and then. Call them up and get it replaced.

I have ordered a few things from them, and have been more than pleased with their english speaking, call-answering customer service. :)

I do not think you will have any problems.

As someone said above, they are shipping the new card with a Fexex label. They even said that they were sorry.

No harm, no foul.

heh... You think you had probs...

Check out my threads:

It has been a month since I originally ordered THREE 6800GT's and this weekend I was FINALLY able to get my dual 6800GT rig up and running...

Anyway at first I though chumbo was gunna screw me cause the packing slip said 2 6800GT';s but there was only one in the box (it was broken btw..)

They came through and gave me the second one a couple weeks later, but by then I had already ordered my 3rd form Gameve cause I was so friggin anxious. (i ended up returning that one for a restock)

I did bitch and moan to Chumbo and they gave me a $15 gift certificate for my inconvience (It never hurts to ask, eh?)

Perhaps whomever is filling orders at Chumbo is dyslexic. When you look at the boxes of the 6600GT and the 6800GT and OC BFG versions they look alot alike, but they should have a double check before they ship out a +$275.00 card. This is why rarely buy video cards online.

You may not even have to return the 6600 legally.

I'm no expert on law, but what I'm thinking of that makes me think this (in ny) reads:
S 5-332. Unsolicited and voluntarily sent merchandise deemed
unconditional gift. 1. No person, firm, partnership, association or
corporation, or agent or employee thereof, shall, in any manner, or by
any means, offer for sale goods, wares, or merchandise, where the offer
includes the voluntary and unsolicited sending of such goods, wares, or
merchandise not actually ordered or requested by the recipient, either
orally or in writing. The receipt of any such goods, wares, or
merchandise shall for all purposes be deemed an unconditional gift to
the recipient who may use or dispose of such goods, wares, or
merchandise in any manner he sees fit without any obligation on his part
to the sender.
If after any such receipt deemed to be an unconditional gift under
this section, the sender continues to send bill statements or requests
for payment with respect thereto, an action may be brought by the
recipient to enjoin such conduct, in which action there may also be
awarded reasonable attorney`s fees and costs to the prevailing party.
2. If a person is a member of an organization which makes retail sales
of any goods, wares, or merchandise to its members, and the person
notifies the organization of his termination of membership by certified
mail, return receipt requested, any unordered goods, wares, or
merchandise which are sent to the person after thirty days following
execution of the return receipt for the certified letter by the
organization, shall for all purposes be deemed unconditional gifts to
the person, who may use or dispose of the goods, wares, or merchandise
in any manner he sees fit without any obligation on his part to the
organization.
If the termination of a person`s membership in such organization
breaches any agreement with the organization, nothing in this section
shall relieve the person from liability for damages to which he might be
otherwise subjected to pursuant to law, but he shall not be subject to
any damages with respect to any goods, wares, or merchandise which are
deemed unconditional gifts to him under this section.
If after any receipt deemed to be an unconditional gift under this
section, the sender continues to send bill statements or requests for
payment with respect thereto, an action may be brought by the recipient
to enjoin such conduct, in which action there may also be awarded
reasonable attorneys` fees and costs to the prevailing party.

So this is a State Law, correct?

Would the law apply to the place of Business that the merchandise is sent from, or would it apply to whatever state you are in?

I got my PCI-E 6800GTOC from Chumbo without a problem.

Yeah, this law is to protect people from being forced to accept unsolicited products and then being pressured to pay for them afterwards. In that case, you have the title to that unsolicited product.
