Just curious if anyone is using Chromecast with Netflix and getting 5.1 audio through this setup. I am looking at using one on my TV then using my TV's optical out to my head unit. I noticed on my HTPC through a browser I don't get 5.1 apparently this is a limitation of Silverlight. If you have this working what are you casting from?

Chromecast supports 5.1 audio, but that also depends on if the movie was encoded with 5.1

As for Netflix on Chromecast... Netflix has a small native app deployed onto the Chromecast device. This allows them to get around the Silverlight (and Quicktime) exclusions in Chromecast, while still providing adaptive bitrate content with DRM. In fact, Silverlight has nothing to do with Chromecast.

I thought there was an issue with some 5.1 not being passed straight through the optical outs on a TV. Can't remember the details
