This may not be in the right location, so please move this if so.

I experience choppy playback of specific QuickTime HD 1080 video files downloaded from Apple's site. I have read a lot of information on this subject, but haven't yet found a solution that works for me.

I have tried installing Quicktime Alternative/QT Lite to no avail.
I have installed the latest Forceware drivers.
I have installed nVidia PureVideo software.
I installed the K-lite codec pack from www.free-codecs.com
I run the videos using VLC, Windows Media Player Classic, and Cyberlink PowerDVD.

I can't figure it out. Only Apple's files seem to do this, as the 1080 files downloaded from Microsoft's site seem to work fine.

Here are the relevant specs of my system:
Windows XP
MSI p35
e2160 (dual core) @ 2.8 ghz
2 X evga 7900 GT KO (running in SLI)
2 gb memory (crucial ballistix)
Notorious Soyo 24" @ 1920 x 1200, 60 Hz through DVI connector

Suggestions welcome!
Thanks

This issue occurs for me as well, from time to time.

The only way I know to fix it is to restart the computer.

It's really annoying sometimes, when I want to see a movie trailer or what not.

But I've found that restarting the PC clears it all up.

Hope that helps...even though it's a bit of a pain.

Hmm.. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, restarting the computer doesn't do the trick for me. Any other ideas?

Really?

That blows.

I had a recent Quicktime software update. It required that I reinstall the entire program. Have you checked if you have the most up-to-date version of Quicktime?

I have noticed that I haven't had too much of the stuttering lately. Or at least since I updated and restarted :)

I have never seen apple HD movies run smooth. There is always some hitching or tearing going on.

I just started streaming a 1080P trailer off the apple site.....uses 20-30% of my quad core Core 2 at 2.66GHz. That i up to and over an entire processor pretty much. This is with a first gen 8800 GTX. Might check your CPU utilization while you are playing the video and see if you are bottlenecked there. That would be my likely guess.

That said, check out the Doomsday trailer. Looks like Escape from New York meets Mad Max crossed up with 28 Day later. And some hot ass in it as well. :D

Seems like I only have problems with some trailers. The Doomsday 1080 trailer plays fine. However, the HD trailer for "What Happens in Vegas", which is apparently now removed from the Apple site, does not.

Try VLC player, if it won't play with VLC, rename it to <filenamehere>.mkv or something like that. :)
