I wasn't really sure where to post this, so I put it here.

I have a gateway fx 6860.

I was trying to play some HD quality video using VLC over HDMI to my Pioneer Kuro 4280.

The audio was steady and perfect, but the video was extremely choppy in parts.

I looked in the task manager and I was hitting 100% cpu usage in the copy parts and coming down to around 40% in other areas of the video.

The processor is a Pentium T7300 (2.0ghz duo).

This was my first try at trying something like this. Should I be doing things differently? I'm not really sure where to start.

Some video compression codecs use the CPU more than the Video card and it sounds like the one you were playing uses the CPU.

what type of files are you playing? x264 mkv 720P or 1080P files?

Get a better video player; VLC is garbage for HTPC like use since it doesn't support hardware acceleration like any modern video player.

Google Combined Community Codec Pack and welcome to the 21st century of video playback.

h.264 support for vlc is still heavy under development. and I think your cpu might be a little too slow for 1080p

I downloaded CCCP and that seems to have done it. I used to use FFDshow but I don't know where that went.

Regardless, my cpu usage dropped significantly. I was able to watch the video with no problems.

Thanks.
