I am about to purchase a video card for my wife's computer but I am not too sure which video card to purchase because there are so many options. My budget constraints are from $150USD to $250USD. I am looking for a 256-bit card, 8X AGP, has support for the Linux environment, and won't need to be upgraded in a while. I've been looking at reviews for the video cards and I see that the nVidia 5900 and ATI Radeon 9800 are pretty good cards but they don't exactly fit into my budget.

If anyone can suggest a video card to get that would be really awesome.

If your high end is $250usd, then those cards DO fit your budget. The 9800pro is the best bang for your buck right now. I've seen Future Shop sell the 9800pro for $299cdn. You could always try the for sale/trade forums here. You should easily find a 9800pro for around$150usd. If you want to shop online, try www.ncix.com, www.vibecomputers.com, or www.anitec.ca. Those are all based out of Vancouver and have shop there myself. Maybe someone else can suggest some retailers closer to you.

it's gonna have to be nvidia if you are looking to run linux, nvidia linux drivers are far superior to ati linux drivers
