Choosing the right memory...

Well, after a bad experience with 6 sticks of RAM (4 Mushkin 2-2-2, 2 Corsair XMS 3200) and most likely a faulty motherboard (IC7-Max 3), I've RMA'd and come to a decision on a new motherboard: Asus P4C800-E. Now comes the tricky part - choosing the right memory to go with it. This is where I could really use some advice. I am looking at high-end memory to push my 2.8C, and tight timings certainly wouldn't hurt. I've just about eliminated Mushkin from the choices, and am pretty hesitant about going with Corsair XMS again. So, I looked around at newegg and found some pretty nice-looking Kingston Hyper-X, OCZ, and Geil.

I was almost set on going with 1GB of EL OCZ PC-3500. I registered and posted over at abxzone about this, and they all swear by OCZ. That got me feeling pretty good, but I come here, like always for advice, and find a much more negative attitude towards OCZ. What's the deal with that? Anyways, I was looking at PC-3700 Hyper-X specifically. Has anyone had any experience with Hyper-X? What memory do you not recommend to go with my Asus board? Please let me know about any known compatibility issues before I buy and end up with another month of headaches and RMA's.

OCZ has a shady company. Google OCZ and some bad terms like: ozc+shady, ocz+scam, ocz+bad+company.

So, the better question, is why would you support such a company regardless of their product when companies like Kingston, Crucial, Corsair and Mushkin are around?

That's why they get a bad rap.
