So I was holding out for the Buffalo FireStix at newegg for $190 but they are not expected to be back in stock till Friday. I ordered the rest of my build over the weekend and will have all my other components by then. So now I'm looking to get some other DDR2-800 RAM fo go with my system. Since this is my first build, I'd like to get some advice on what to purchase for around $200. I am under the impression that as long as it is from one of the top brands, it doesnt matter which RAM I choose. The Buffalo FireStix were the best deal out there, aside from those, whats the next best deal available? Which should I get?

Those are not Micron D9, which make the Firestix a great deal since memory sticks who have the D9 is usually sold over 250$ with the very rare exceptions.

I strongly suggest you wait a bit then get the Firestix when it get in stock.

If you absolutely cannot wait and must order something, I would suggest you look at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227159 for a guaranteed Micron D9 and which is in stock :D
 
So it sounds like I should wait till Thurs/Fri to order from Buffalo/Newegg. I guess my build will have to wait one more week but i'm sure it will be worth it. Thanks guys
 
so these Micron D9 sticks are really only good if you overclock correct?

if you dont overclock then any other ram at same speed would be just as good?

Normally, yes. However, It's best to futureproof the purchase a bit and get a Micron D9 in case you need the extra fsb in the future with newer products or you decide to overclock eventually.
 
does the D9 micron chips work fine in the Gigabye DS3 motherboards? I heard somewhere it had issues.
