I'm looking at buying an external monitor for my 2007 Macbook Pro. I'm trying to decide between these two right now:

The first one has the advantage of 1080p HD, which I don't have a use for right this instant, but could be helpful in the future. The second one seems to have a more manageable resolution though, especially since they are basically the same size. I imagine that I would be squinting a lot at 1920x1080 at that size.

Anyone have any other monitor suggestions or recommendations?

I'll also be putting the one I choose on an ergotron dual monitor arm (the other arm supporting my laptop). I plan on rotating my external monitor often, which is one reason I'm not looking at the Samsungs too much- they have a really fat bottom bezel that I think would be distracting in portrait mode.
 
PS, I just remembered that Newegg's return policy for monitors is less than stellar. Where do you guys think I should go for a better policy?
 
1080p all the way, even if you are blind as a bat you can always lower the resolution for oldman font.
 
But wouldn't going to the non native resolution on any LCD make it look like complete shit?
 
OK, but that would raise it similarly on the laptop screen, which I wouldn't need. Either way, without any modifications, is this resolution going to be harder to use?

I'm gonna be buying the monitors + arms between now and Jan 14th (when I go back to school, although I do still have another final tomorrow...)
 
So the overwhelming consensus seems to be to go for the 1080p monitor, yeah? Are there any other brands I should be looking at? And where should I go for a better return policy on monitors?
 
What are the advantages of the LG L227WTG-PF over the two monitors I have listed here? Why is it significantly more expensive?
