I need to set up a VPN in my home office. Other people need to access my PC's to do work from remote locations. I belive I have this figured out to go with a VPN setup. I have never done a VPN so this is new to me. Can someone please help me with picking out the right router for starters. And if there is more info anyone can give that would also be great.

Thank you all,
Scott

I use an OfficeConnect from 3Com. It has PPP dial in as well as L2P and IPSec so it can do it all. I suspect you will use PPP.

ipcop with zerina addon (open vpn)

been using for a long time now, and its great, simple, and 'just works'

but i dont know if you want to dedicate a spare pc to this job......but its oh so much more than just a router/firewall/vpn

I think that just for a few VPN tunnels its best to use a router. IPCop is fantastic but simple is always best and power useage would be a bit less as well.

For right now it will be me and 1 other person using laptops that need to connect to the main PC. There may be 1 or 2 more people in the future but that will be it. Mostly just the 2 remote PCs and the main desktop.

Oh ya if it matters I am using a DSL connection @ 6Mb

Could you please refer me to some model #'s of these routers you are talking about.

I did, the only thing is I the last 1 was a good review and I do not know if the others are just not tech savoy or if the thing does suck. I just want to get a VPN solution up and running.

if its just one pc on your end, why not use something like hamachi?

i've used a linksys vpn solution in the past, and it was a bit of a pain to use. i could be wrong but i think vpn is really a business feature so consumer/reasonably priced routers are going to suck at it. in any case, take a look at this one:

personally, i would just go to bestbuy, buy one and test it. If it works, great, if not you can return it.

Well I am using it for a business I just started up. So I need to find a good switch becouse I just got off the phone with AT&T and they are comming out tuesday. They are providing me with wireless gateway modem and installing the static IP's on the PC's. If I get the router by then they said they would configure the whole thing for me.

here is the list I have going on newegg as of the moment for the main PC. I know I have used this motherboard for regular PC builds I think it will work for a workstation but any other ideas wouuld be great.
