choice between two cases..

choosing a case, at least for me, has been probably the hardest decision about my soon-to-be-built computer. sounds stupid, yea, but ahh. hard decision.
anyway, for the last few months ive been completely set on the antec p-160w.. until i went to frys electronic (local comp store) and saw it in person. it isnt nearly as sturdy as i thought.. and i was just put off by seeing it up close.

moving on..

i originally thought i wanted a case with a window.. however, i realized that it just isnt important at all.
so, i am now stuck between two choices:
the lian-li v1000 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112051)
and the
the silverstone temjin tj06. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811163032)

both look absolutely amazing (i love that g5-ish case look). i always liked these cases, but i could never consider them because i wanted a window before, and the windows on those cases are on the right side, which wouldnt work for my desk setup.
anyway, i have heard that because of the way those cases are setup (the flipped motherboard), cables are sometimes not long enough to reach the motherboard. i have also heard that certain power supplies won't fit correctly.

long post, yea, but if someone could help me out, that would be great. thanks!

I think people would give you more opinions if you could provide a link to each case.

I think you would get more response if you spent an extra 2 minutes posting photos instead of making others click links.

Lian Li will be lighter, much prettier, easier to setup, and smaller.

The Silverstone will be sturdier, have better cooling, and easier to work in, but gargantuan.

Personally I would go with the Lian Li. Their build quality is great and the case design is excellent, not to mention it is probably one of the top 5 best looking cases available today. Personally I just think the Temjin is massive and gawdy, but I know Silverstone makes solid cases with good features, so it wouldn't necessarily be a bad investment.

because clicking links is so tedious it might as well not be worth it... riiight...

Would I rather look at a picture instead of clicking a link? Of fucking course I would, and that we all know, makes me:

"za baaad guy"

I'm voting for the first case.

It takes longer to write up a complaint post than to click the links.

First case.

Silverstone all the way, lian lis are cool and all, but its full of holes, so lighting looks like arse imho, and also, everyone and their gran has one.

Re-read post #2 and 3 please.

There were no links and there were no pics when post 2 and 3 were made.

Thanks for paying attention before you post.

Both cases are very nice but I think with all the Lian-Li's flutterring around everywhere, you might be happier going with the Temjin. I think thats the case I will probably be getting for my next rig, but in black.

I saw the silver stone at my local Fry's store and it's pretty damn slick but I have to go for the lian li. Either one is a good choice. Anything though about the Antec P180? I would pick that over both of these.

I vote for neither, does that count? I dont really like either one... Hey, this a modding thread, make one...

Why gotta be a jack ass? Not everybody likes to mod nor has the talent/skills to.

i don't really like either of the ones your considering now but thats just me, and i'm not sure why you aren't considering the P160 anymore because its a great case, my dad has one and he loves it, as for the one you saw at frys being in bad shap it doesn't surprise me, all the display cases that have been there for any length of time get completly trashed by people messing with them and stealing stuff off them, so unless you're getting this case for the kids of an ADHD daycare it's not gonna see the type of abuse the one on display at frys has. If you want to see cases that aren't thrashed then i sudgest you go to the local computer fair because the vendors there don't let people trash their cases.

yea i know that the frys display one is gonna suck, but still, i would rather have a really sturdy all aluminum case. and i just love the look of both of those cases. i would get the tj06, but i keep reading about how power supplies dont fit, and how the flipped motherboard makes it have problems with wires and such. is this true at all?

**EDIT**

ok i really want the tj06 now. ive gone over reviews for it again, it seems the only problem which is common is the powersupply not being able to reach the MB. so just for fun, ill order a power extender cable (dont know the name lol), as it should only be a few bucks.
now, one thing tho. are there drive covers available anywhere for the case, or would i have to stealth drives myself (i know there are some silver dvd-rom and dvd-ram drives available on newegg or other places, but they all seem to have tons of writing on them. eww.)

would lian-li drive covers work on the case by any chance? performance-pcs.com offer the case with optional lian-li floppy drive covers.. so maybe the cd drive covers would work..

re the Lian Li V1000, here's a link to make you think happy thoughts, as in heavily loaded and still quiet as a church mouse

http://www.nvnews.net/articles/quietsli/index.shtml

"When everyone found out it was an SLI system, the first question was, "how loud is it?" To prove a point, I opened the case side prior to powering the system. Again, if this system is going to earn the badge of quiet-SLI, it is going to have to earn it.

The power button was depressed and among the jaws to drop was my brother's. This dual GPU 600W system was quieter than his Shuttle XPC. In fact, one attendee mentioned it was quieter than his laptop."

word. thanks for keeping it real in the face of adversity.

hmm. im just worried about the powersupply fitting in the v1000. what is a good sli-ready psu which will def. fit in the case?

Enermax 535w (it is SLI certified)

I recently got a TJ06 as an upgrade from my old Chieftec Matrix. This thing is awesome, plenty of room to work with, completely new design which places an ATX MOBO in the case upside down. I keep my rig on the desk to the left of my monitor so I have room for the mouse and joy stick on the right side. This is nice because when I decide to cut a window into the side of the case, I will be able to see my work rather than show off my work to a wall. I have worked with Lian Li cases in the past, and while they do have a nice lay out, they really don't stand up too well to a healthy diet loaded with LAN parties. I have had Li Li cases start to warp after just a few LAN's. The TJ06 is also ready for the next generation of MOBO as well, the BTX form factor.

Jack ass??? I'm not the one posting in the case modding threads on which case to choose. For GAWDS sakes this is the case modding threads, I have every right to expect someone to have some bawls to try to create something out of nothing. And if the "not everybody likes to mod" person would stop reading modding stuff and posting to the modding threads, then maybe they wouldnt get a little bit of attitude every once in a while (not saying that is what I was doing though). Making a case is not hard, and your excuse about having talent/skills to do it is just that, an excuse. Like lame gamers saying they wont LAN with others because they arent any good. You wont be any good if you dont at least try.

This of course is not directed to the thread starter. I'm all for taking vanilla and making it chocolate fudge, but how many times we need to start a "which case" thread in the case modding section when modding isnt going to even come into play? Honestly...

I guess I wish more people would mod something and find out how gratifying it is to make something of your own two hands. Sure it's hard work, but most things worth it are... I was merely stating the obvious other choice that maybe the thread starter didnt consider. Check my other posts, I am always more than likely to help someone do something then put them down. In this case I am pushing for creativity, not buying into the common everyday case.

Personally I am working on two projects and one of them is completely from scratch. Lots of work, but that is the point.

/End rant...

i should go for the silverstone.....but the price is a little overhead ;) can get it for 65 dollars here (50 euro's)

Sry, I figured case modding was the closest category. Shoulda put it in general hardware, my bad. Can a mod move it?

Not a bad price.....it cost me 140 US dollars

I got the lian li case myself for my rig and i love it...It's 2-3x more quiet than my previous generic case imho plus i love the look. (i learned to hate doors on my PC since i kept hitting it every time i sat down on my last case)

You're good where you are, my point is not to put out hate, just to say that making your own case is always a good choice and possibility. Not to mention fun...

But to answer your question, of those two limited choices I would go with the v1000. I dont like the window in the tj06 if you are not going to mod it. I think aesthetically the v1000 is much better looking and clean lines. The front and overall design is also more unique. Just my opinion...

I didn't really care for the window either, but then again when I got mine, newegg offered it with or without the window. I got mine without the window and if I ever decide that I want one, I can cut it to my own specs.
