Chkdsk Problem

I was running a chkdsk scan on my desktop and lost power in my house. Now xp pro won't boot, from any safe mode/normally ect. Is there a way to prevent this from starting again at the startup, or do I need to use the recovery disk and go from there? Thanks
 
I would boot from the XP CD and follow the instructions for a repair install.
