Bought a 500GB drive to replace the 120GB drive in my Maxtor OneTouch USB enclosure. Transferred the files from the 120GB drive to the 500GB drive. Then, noticed some extreme slowness when accessing files on the drive. Started a chkdsk within Windows. That was Tuesday morning...it's still going and doesn't look anywhere close to done...what am I missing here? I've never seen this sort of behavior before.

In case it matters, Win7 Professional.

Did you do a full format on the 500GB? I would try to reformat the drive and copy the files again. Also, run some benchmarks (read/write) using HD Tune Pro or other HDD benchmarking software.

I did not do a full format, just a quick format.

The Windows format sufficient, you think? Looks like I get 30mb/s speed.

Typically it's best to do a full format on a new drive to detect errors before you move data there. Once I known a drive is okay I'll do a quick format if I ever need to format it again.
