I have an NF4-U chipset and have been overclocking it and I was wondering what everyone feels is a safe temperature for the chipset. Under load Mine is at 55C with a Zalman passive cooler.

That temp is ok anything over 65 degrees i would say wasnt too good. How is your cable management cos having them tidy will create more airflow.

Cables are fine. I have a side 120mm case fan blowing right on the video card and chipset.

agreed with above, the chipset rarely becomes a problem unless it gets REALLY hot. Mine runs hot with my 165 opty Oc'ed to 2.7ghz but never causes stability issues.

That is wrong. period. Those chips are rated to handle 90c load temps. And most temp sensors don't even read the actual mobo chip anyway....when watercooling the cpu, my mobo ran anywhere from 79c to 85c all day long, doing full load tasks. Never a whimper. Ever. Now with my Typhoon, it gets a bit more air and typically runs 60c.

55c is like air conditioning....don't worry about it....

i said that temp was fine. i wasnt wrong i was just saying 65 or above isnt great. and if its stable at 80-90 then great even better.

Sorry, was not intended as a flame. Agreed, keeping it at 65c or lower is a Good Thing.

People have a tendency to compare things, like what cpu temperatures need to be they without thinking will sometimes believe it needs to be the same for the gpu or north bridge, when its not the case. 65c even is fine for the chipset, its designed with a much higher thermal limit and most still get away with being passively cooled just fine.
