Hey,
so i finally got my new setup (in my sig to work) and under heavy load, the chipset temp. rises to between 45-52C. Is this too high?
If so, what do you suggest I do?
1) Remove cooler, apply AS5 and hope it helps (maybe place an 80mm fan as close as I can to it)
2) Buy another cooler? IceBerq?
-Thanks

Yeah mine used to get that warm, and my PC would shut down, (i dunno if that was the cause or not.) So i took it off, applied some AS5 and it now stays below 40-41*C under heavy load, and no more shutdowns. So it couldnt hurt to put some AS5 on it.

I've had mine in that range under load for over 24+ hours priming. Not a problem so far...

i took it off..applied some AS5 thermal paste and now the temps are about 37C. Wow what a difference...

yeah, the temps are under load quite high, but stable. And the AS5 will do wonders.

I wonder if this the reason I'm hitting wall at 315 HTT/FSB. Anything over that and I start getting wierd errors in operation and memory.

Mine load about the same. Mine idles about 44 and loads around 49. I think I might apply some AS5, oh and mod mine into an SLI while I am at it.

I can't stand that chipset fan. I applied AS5 and now the temps are under control, but that whiny noise!! Arghhhh

Anybody try replacing the chipset fan?

Its right under teh vid card..any aftermarket coolers fit there??

You could move the videocard down to the lower slot and run it at 8x. Is there really any real world performance difference between 16x and 8x?

Yeah there is no difference at all, except i gained 200 points in AquaMark after changing my card to the lower slot. :)

You can change the fan speed of the chipset cooler on DFI mobos. I think the full speed of the fan is about 7,300RPM, however, i have my mobo set to only go to full speed at 50C, when temps are below 50C it lowers the fan RPM down. Right now my chipset temp is 36C, and the chipset cooler fan is at 2,200RPM.

Where? BIOS?

It can be done via the BIOS. I forget exactly where (ill go check) but you can basicly set a temp for the fan to turn off, and a temp for the fan to go on full speed, then the motherboard adjusts the fan speed between those two temps. I think mine are 25C turn off and 50C full speed.

EDIT: I went and checked. Under the 'PC health Status' in the BIOS thats a few settings to set temps for fan speeds. The last two are something like this (probabaly not exact but you get the idea).

NB fan fully on at: (temp)

NB fan turn off at: (temp)

I have the fully on temp at 50C and the turn off temp at 25C and my fan changes speed between those two temps no problems. 38C and 2,500-2,600RPM right now
