Chipset overheat

When I started having lockup problems in games from overheating, I looked at my temps.. The computer is running really hot..

So, I open it up and my chipset fan is dead. Figuring that is the problem, I take it off and ghetto rig and 80mm fan over it. Only problem is, i can't turn the 80mm fan around so that it will exfiltrate air. It will only pump air in. Thinking I need more fans, I buy a big desktop fan and now I have that hanging over my computer.

I am using a program called SpeedFan to monitor my temps now. It has different temperature gagues, only problem is, I can't figure out which one is which.

It has:

Temp1
Temp2
Temp3
Temp1 (again)

Temp 1 is running at around 40c
Temp 2 is running at around 42c
Temp 3 is the one I am having the most problem with, as it will run around 46c until I start up a game, at which time it jumps up to around 51c and the computer locks up.
The other temp1 is running at around 45c

What could possibly be the problem here? How can I find out what Temp3 is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The motherboard is an msi k7n2 delta. The computer has been running fine for over 2 years.

I don't know about the sensors w/ your board and SpeedFan - my backup box (NF7-S, same nf2 chipset as your MSI) uses 8rdavcore . The MSI is partially (well mostly) supported with 8rdavcore - it should be fine for your temp readings, although I don't think it has some of the more advanced features of SF, ie: configurable offsets and stuff. I'd say give it a try though. Alternately you could load 8rdavcore, and compare it w/ the SF readings (should be the same ie: coming from the same sensor), and edit your SF name tags to reflect what 8 is telling you (likely only CPU/chipset temps tho, not sure about the others).

Anyway, back to the SF readings, if it's anything like the readings w/ my eVGA board, that extra temp1 reading could be a ghost sensor reading - my 'ghost' one never changed (mine read 40c as well if I recall), so I just disabled it from being shown..That leaves three, again probably CPU/chipset and the 3rd is probably your HDD/S.M.A.R.T. reading. With my NF4 board, there's also a PWMIC/Mosfet sensor as well, but I don't recall any NF2 boards having that capability - well not my Abit, and not likely your MSI..Maybe the DFI did though.

Well, the air conditioner in the house is on now, and everything is running around 35c, except that temp 3. Still around 40c. It's gotta be the weather. Thank you for the info.
