Are these necessary when overclocking? They look pretty rad paired up with Zalman HSF's, but I'm wondering if this is mostly a WANT rather than a NEED. Sure it'll help lower temps, but is it worth it rather than the regular heatsinks?
 
its been proven again and again more north bridge cooling and perhaps even south bridge=more fsb(unless cpu is your limiting factor)
 
IMO they are more of a want, but if your hsf dies, its time to upgrade. I didnt notice a difference in my overclock when upgrading from my stock IC7-G to the MCX159-P, but my mb looks cooler now ;) I could have gone with the Thermaltake if I wanted an ugly color combo and a lot of noise, or a Thermalright, but Swiftech products are so damn sexy, and are built with the highest quality. To each is own though...
 
yeah i got my Silent Boost before I joined this site and after seeing everyones cases with Zalmans in it, I already wanna get rid of the SB!

then paired up with the similar looking chipset fans, wow. oh well... maybe in 6 months or so.

You can run it fanless too, mine is barely warm to the touch at 240fsb. ;)

You running an nForce2 board? If so, then there's a reason why it's cool (assuming you haven't lapped the NB)...nForce2 northbridge chips are pretty concave. When my lapped stock cooler was on there, it barely contacted the corners with AS5. I spent a good hour lapping the northbridge before I slapped on this MCX-159, and now I've got a thermal probe nestled against the side of the chip.

It's already half as noisy as one of my Stealth fans, which I can barely hear when my ear is a foot away from them. Also, there's a few tubes running overtop the nb cooler, so I need the forced air. No air from a CPU hsf for me. ;)
