Ahhhhhhhh! I'm going insane!!! The stupid little fan for my motherboard's chipset has started making this grinding sound that just won't stop. I'm serious, it's so ridiculously loud that I can't hear the airplanes that are constantly landing and taking off from LAX (I live < 1 mile away). I finally had to pull the plug on the little bugger so I could collect my wits enough to make this post. So I guess I'm asking: am I gonna be fine living with the fan turned off (at least until I manage to find a replacement)? Or should I be worried that my computer is gonna explode into a firey ball? I... just... can't... stand... that... fan... any... more!!!
 
wut kind of mobo do u have? is it the abit nf7-s? i got one of those and read reviews where everyone had that problem but not on my board....but anyways i heard that some fixed it by taking it off and putting it back on..or replacing it completley.
 
I had a Soyo Kt400 Dragon Ultra Platinum
and the rev b of the board had a heatsink instead of a tiny fan for the chipset, becuase they failed so much...
then again, its soyo.
 
My NF7-S does the same thing. I am thinking about replacing it with a large passive sink.
