Chipset Fan failing?

I bought the DFI S939 Lan Party Nforce 3 board to use with my AGP 6800. Lately, when I turn my computer on, I get an annoying whirring sound, which sounds exactly like a failing fan. It's a pretty high-pitch whine, and I've narrowed it down to one of the graphics card fans or the chipset fan. The whining noise stops once the Windows desktop loads, which leads me to believe that it's the chipset fan- would this be right? I figured if it was one of the graphics card fans it would continue to whine while the computer is on, right? Am I on the right track here? Replacing a chipset fan would be a heck of a lot easier (and cheaper!) to replace than a 6800 heatsink.

Thanks!

usually these litlle fans that make noise stop making it when their heatsink expands due to heat, but presumably it will tend to not stoping noise some day.

If you dont overclock maybe the best option is to change it for a nice passive chipset heatsink like zallman's or coolermaster's
