Chipset affecting folding speed!?

I was using my 165 on an ASRock 939 Dual, running 270x9, 1.30v for a 24/7 OC. I had changed to timeless WUs since the 7xx tinkers were hurting the PPD on this box so much that it was producing less than my 3000+ laptop.

Anyway, an 1152 (I think) was folding at something around 4m45s a frame. I then got a NF4 SLI board on the cheap and changed the motherboard on my system, reloaded windows, etc and got the board stable at my previous OC settings. I resumed working on the 1152 and with the new motherboard installed it's folding at 4m05s a frame, or so.

My question is...what the hell? I thought frequency = king with folding. Now I swtich mobos and all of a sudden my folding speeds up significantly? And it's not that WU, it's held these improved speeds for all the WU's its gotten since then.

I'm not complaining...but anyone have any ideas? The ULi chipset just not as good as the nVidia one? Or maybe my previous install was slowing me down (although I had nothing taking cycles away from folding on my previous install).
 
Ram timings different? Maybe there was a program that you didn't know about hat was running on the previous comp. Also there are differences amongst proteins that will change the frame times within the same project number. Also I have seen in motherboard reviews that some motherboards have large differences between performance, so you might be partially right in suspecting the chipset.

I thought that Asrock board was a good one? Why did you switch to the new board?

 
Ram timings are the same, infact, they're were a little more lax at the point that I first noticed. As for things taking up cycles I'd doubt it there was anything there that isn't there now, although it -is- a possibility, just very slim.

Yes, there are different runs between proteins, etc, however I brough over the half done WU to this install. It was roughly 60% through when I decided I wasn't going to wait until the next day (when I was much busier) to do the install, so I just copied the WU data to a shared folder. I copied it back and finished the WU, and those frames were the same 30s or so faster each. The WUs since then have followed suit.

And the board is a great board, if you don't mind the +.05vcore limit/some little quirks. I did the VID3 mod to it for shits and giggles, but I didn't run over 2430 24/7 so it was pretty pointless. It took this 165 to 310x9 on the OCWBeta 2 before the board was my limiter. I think I was at 1.45volts or so.
I didn't need to upgrade, but I was building another folding box (I came into a spare S939 processor, and had a bunch of parts lying around) so I needed to get a second motherboard. I saw a NF4 SLI board on sale here, bought it, and figured why waste the SLI board (now that I have a PCIE card) on the folding system. There was nothing wrong with the ASRock 939 dual, I'd definately reccomend it to anyone who is willing to use the OCWbeta BIOSes and maybe do the vcore/vdimm mods if you really wanted to OC.
