What are you doing to gear up for the contest?

I've just got all my systems stable and am pushing 34k right now. (Did a total rebuild of 2 systems)

I am thinking of more "D" in the form of another GTX 260 core 216

im sitting here wishing i had more money so i could buy another gfx card so i could have 2 running instead of my lonely 8800GT..

blowing lots of money, got one rig up, another waiting on ram

total of a Q66, 2 P4's, and 8800 GTX, and 4 9600 GSO's, plus a PS3 and whatever rigs I can borg until then

not as much as some of the big guys, but its all I can do in this economy

I'm going to help my dad choose some "high quality"(very fast) parts for his new computer and hopefully something with 3 pcie slots :d mebbe slot a 9800 gx2 or 2 in there :D

I've fired up 10 notfred VM instances bumping up my PpD from 60K to almost 80K. I've also just written a guide to help those that want to use notfred's to bump up their PpD but don't want to work to hard to do so.

Go [H]ard or stay home!!!

I have another 4 PCIE slot mobo on the way, hoping to pick up a quad from Sunin and load it up with gfx cards...hopefully the cash doesnt run dry before may...

hopefully the cash doesnt run dry before may

QFT

Just completely tore down, cleaned and rebuilt one of my machines this weekend. Hopefully I will be doing the second one tonight. Should be able to free up a couple extra x16 slots by doing so. Hopefully I'll be able to fire up 4 Nvidia 8800s and a couple ATI cards for the CC.

I installed Windows 7 Build 7000 on my rebuilt machine last night. I going to try to install F@H on it tonight. Anyone done this? Windows 7 work ok?

I've converted my 2x Q6600 G0's back to GPU2 and WinSMP (each has 1x GPU card and 2x PCIe slots) ;)

I'm in the process of converting my E6600 over to LinSMP (just 1x PCIe slot) :D

I'm also keeping a sharp eye out for the most bang/buck GPU card (like the 8800GT 512 mb was and might still be ) ATM I only have a eVGA 9600GSO and a eVGA 8800GS, shaders OC'ed to a measly 1458, I'll put them up to 1620 or 1670 pretty soon. (me and those damn stick on HS's managed to screw up my PNY 8800GT) I thank brother Kendrak for suggesting the GTX260, is the 216 best?

Please give me any recommendations about GPU's shaders, how to run my WinSMP better, etc. How to prevent the other teams from getting any point advantage like they seemed to have done lasr year in the CC (you know, the stoping of WU's just prior to the deadline of CC or whatever) :)

We've got to kick some serious butt in the Chimp Challenge this year. IMHO it acknowledges the past team 33 [H]orde crunchers (ie old timers), but also gives credit to the many unselfish peeps that DC and work so hard to make the mighty [H]orde #1 :p

EDIT: Oh yeah, where are you Mr relic  I miss your witty posts and your heart felt poems :p I see you're still blitzing on the F@H team list and I hope everything is copacetic with you and yours :)

yup, win7 rocks! just did 3 days ago on my sig rig, my main folder (64 bit)

working on getting notfreds running now, but Ive got an 8800GTX and 2 9600 GSO's on here, 10k PPD from them, rock solid with latest vista64 drivers

My second rig should come online soon, but its just a P4 with 2 more 9600 GSO's

Gearing up and prepping currently unused hardware for the challenge. My goal is to push 150K PPD during the challenge.
Got a 9800GTX+ and 3 - Q6600s not running right now, working on getting them running.

You can get the 216 (its the best for folding) for 179 with no rebates on the Egg. It is a BFG and lifetime warranty so no worries of toasted GPUs.

They have a XFX card, also with a lifetime warranty for 169, free shipping after 30 MIR. I have that card and with a bit of an OC, 7400ppd is not hard with that card.

I'm considering a getting 2nd XFX.

I have been on the lookout for a cheapo GPU to fold on in my second system, all my play money(and savings) just got dumped into my dog, well not dumped it was money well spent, however it was unexpected. I also have dicovered the awesome power of VMware and notfreds folding appliance.

88GT aint to bad, below that you can get a 96GSO for about 55-60 , anything higher, got 260 (140 on FS/FT)

(used of course)

The 9600 gso is what i'm shooting for, cant find one used in my area and the new ones are becoming hard to find. Well north of the border they are.

I just sent my 8800GT in for RMA today. Hopefully I'll have a replacement before the challenge starts.

Hey guys and gals I gots a couple of quick questoons, how does the GTS250 fold and is it true it's just a rebrand of the 9800GTX+ (55nm jobber)

As you can tell I don't know "jack" about GPU's. Hell, before GPU2, I thought "CUDA" was a car or a mean a$$ fish

From what I have read, yes a GTS250 is basically a rebranded 9800GTX+. If you read the eVGA forums, you can even SLI with it and a 9800GX+ :D

The 250 is clocked higher but has about 1/2 the shaders. For a bit more the 260 is more future proof from larger WU and will get ya about 2500 ppd more at minimum.

Just ordered parts for my new "HTPC" Will have a Phenom II 720 BE on an ASUS M4A79T Deluxe(4 PCIe slots). So far all I have for it is a single XFX HD4890, but I will add GPUs as the cash allows. I've got a HX1000 Corsair PSU so plenty of power to feed whatever I put in there.

You could do pip, in pip, in pip and so on with that rig :p

All the CPU's that I have access to will be put back on F@H. Beyond that, I have a couple things I'm going to make one more attempt at.

Unfortunately, almost everyone has been affected by this, to use an economists complex and correct term, "!@#$% crumby" economic picture :( (or something like that ). So with the gold (money) in the decline mode, we'll all just have do the best we can. Thanks everyone for your generosity :p

The mighty [H]orde team 33 do have one advantage though, we's undaunted by all these major/minor setbacks (I like that word "undaunted")

well, I said to hell with my set backs, Ive got another GPU on the way, bringing me to 5 , plus my quad and P4 and PS3 , so I should be able to get 25k PPD once I get my other rig running

just have no damn money man, ya know?

my aim is to get to 75k ppd here soon I might be able to get a 8 core server built with 2-3 video cards in it for an doctors office i'm working for so that could easily be another 30-40k ppd but not sure when thats going together sadly:(

thats a hell of a rig for a doctors office lol

lol I might be supplying the video cards:) but he's wanting alot of media serving so he wants something fast and new so I'll build him something fast and new:D

were still kind of up in the air over which proc to go with but i'm thinking xeon's potentially as he wanted dual socket so we shall see whats available.

That's the spirit Vaulter98c, go for it :D There are peeps like me, I'm single, I don't have any human depending on me for subsistance (I only have my cat, of course, her food and treats don't come cheap) and hopefully I'll continue to get enough money to survive, pay my rent, feed my cat and do some DCing. Believe me, I don't live "high on the hog", in fact, I'm so poor I can't afford to pay attention sometimes .

Unfortunately or fortunately , depending on how you look at it and the circumstances (like a family, chidren, etc) there are peeps and peepettes out there that do have others depending on them. If there is one thing I learned from some of the "old timers" (those long time DCers, not necessarily peeps ready for the dirt sleep ;)) was "DO NOT STRESS YOUR FINANCES TO DC" and don't cause anyone else pain because then you become part of the problem and not the solution :(

Thanks all youse unselfish [H[orde DCin' champs and champettes :p

Only my uninflated $0.02 cents worth :)

At current PPD it will take over two years for anyone to overtake us. However we can not just sit by and say that we will join in the fight if they get too close. By then it will be too late. We have to resume our place on the top of the PPD charts. Having anyone on our threat list is not acceptable.

we need a few of those 1mil PPD guys, that would help out

Yeah brother Kendrak, I've got you covered on the shader count thing (128 vs 216) and the deal about it only being a rebrand of the 9800GTX+ Plus the fact the GTS250 is cheaper than a GTX260 :)

What I was thinning is it goes from a 2x 6 pin power connection to a 1x 6 pin power connection for the 9800GTX+ vs the GTS250, the GTS250 having only 1x 6 pin and, looking at some reviews, it uses much less power than the GTX260 or a little less than the 9800GTX+ (does the GTX260 use 1x 8 pin and 1x6 pin power connection ). Therefore it runs cooler than the 9800GTX+ and much cooler than the GTX260 (I love the therefore word, makes me sound just like Perry Mason )
Also using less watts I think you can get by with a less powerful PSU (I'd thin a 600w quality PSU would be the least ) and for us "el cheapo" peeps that mean the whole mess would be cheaper all around. (mobo, PSU. etc) upgrades = less pazoos (money) :p

So tryin' not to make a long story into a snoozer , what does a stock GTS250 get for ppd and is it possible to crank the shaders up and how much. Will a GTS250 work in a PCIe express 1.0 slot or does it have to be a PCIe express 1.1 slot or above. (this backward compatability thing is drivin' me even more zoned out than I already are)

Edit: I was wondering if the GTS250 got the same or almost the same ppd as it's sibling the, 9800GTX+. If it did it, IMO it seems like a no brainer for a limited income folder (like me ) to get . If the GTS250 gets the same or almost the same ppd with less power requirements, therefore :)p) less less heat and at present pretty much the same price point or cheaper. I've also read it has some some newer capabilities orver the 9800GTX+, that's why I was wondering about the backwards capability thing (you know, PCIe 1.0 or higher )
