While my brother's computer was down (it's being rebuilt now), I took the liberty of painting his case - you standard chieftec dragon. I realized that I never used the fan bracket (one of those purple ones) or a fan for the 3.5" bays, and now that I am rebuilding his computer, I want to have his hard drives well-cooled, but I can't find that bracket anywhere! The case fan brackets won't fit behind the drive bay. Does anyone know if there is a way I can mount a fan behind the hard drives without using that special bracket? I'd really appreciate any help, as I'd like to have the computer finished by later tonight.

Bent paperclips to hold it in the corners?? LOL J/K!! ;)

The easiest way might be to get ahold of some thin sheet metal (steel or aluminum), and make a bracket. Two thin strips (one on top and bottom of the fan) would do it. Cut it long enough to wrap around the end of the drive cage, where you could use a small nut & bolt to hold each end (of each strip), and a couple holes to screw the fan onto the strips.

Hopefully that makes sense to you? If you've ever saved any of the metal drive bay interior covers (that are behind the plastic covers of the 5.25" bays), that should work just fine. I always save those, just to have a handy piece of metal to make custom brackets with. :)

just drill 4 holes for the screws to travel through where the bracket normally goes through or near thats what i did when i cut out those guard things in the front and back

That is basically the same design as an Antec case. You can order a new one from Antec for about $6.

Find a similar Antec case here and download the manual for it, then call antec and order the part from them directly.

I have a dragon and i lost my fan clip to the hd cage too. i just put the fan in the hd box moved the hd's forward a few notches and it works fine. no rattiling or anything. - g0at

you can pick up some angle aluminum pretty cheap @ home depot, lowes, etc. it shouldn't cost you more than $5 or so and it's easy to do.

now how the hell do u think hes gonna get a fan to star on with zip ties?

I'd order a replacement from Antec or drill holes in the front of the case. :)

zip ties are still ghetto

just get the aluminum angle and cut brackets. or bend some aluminum sheet. it's cheap and easy.

if you're really on the cheap, cut the cage at the corners and fold the sides in (towards the hdds) and drill holes, then use them the same way you would use a bracket.

there's work involved but if you wanna go quick & easy, then go with the zip ties. i am kinda anti-ghetto though.
