Hi guys.
I need to build a Linux Debian system here in a few weeks.
I'm shooting for "cheap and reliable from newegg".
I need two things really: Does this system work with Linux drivers, and two, what am I forgetting?
Its going to be a development machine, and probably will handle some very light server duties on my LAN. So reliable with decent speed is the goal.
To give you an idea...I'm running XPPro on a athlon 2000+, 512 ram, with a GF3 video card, and I consider that acceptable and quite fast enough.

Heres the basic idea:

Case: 2 5" bays, 1 3" bay(CD, FD, ??)
Will have 2-3 NICs in it.(Realtek chips)
Will need to have 2-3 fan openings.
CPU: AMD 1.6 or so...
RAM: 512 or 256...
Mobo: whatever fits...
HD ATA/EIDE ~30-40 GB...whatever is cheap
CD-RW, cheap, again.
FD.
Power supply: ??? Standard wattage, no more.
Fans: 2-3 cheaper ones.
Video card.
Heres a biggy. I want 1024x768x32bpp X windows. I'm not sure what works reliably and simply for X here.
Sound card. None.
Mouse/keyboard/monitor: I have...

Again: What have I forgotten?

Excuse me, that was some good specs, but have you tried looking at the Mini-itx motherboards from Via. I have a mini motherboard running Corel Xandros, it has no trouble and it starts up quicker. If your looking for cheap, these boards have builtin video to 2 lan ports builtin, but for the small size they only have 1 pci slot. So I will give you a link to the via site and check out this motherboard. This board takes up to 1gb of ddr266, now if you looked elsewhere than newegg.com for your research on the specs, you might be able to find it cheaper. Or If newegg is cheaper stick with them. For the fans, I will also send you another link they have other pc related things.
