checking SMART.. behind RAID-0

Hello,

this has been bugging me for lots of time already.. basicly my sistem
is running 0 level RAID - two 80gb WD's behind it.. they both support
SMART, but since they are one logical volume, i wasnt able to find
any software which could "see" them..

does anyone have any idea if such one exists?

well Active SMART has been promising an IDE RAID version forever now
it can be done, my Promise Array Management (PAM) utility checks SMART (SX6000)
but the physical connection likely has alot to do with that, if Im not mistaken SMART reports to the SMBus (system management bus) and if your RAID chip hasnt incorporated a bridge to the bus.....

it could be very chip specific
 
It's been my experience that your RAID BIOS must support SMART, as that is the only part of a RAID subsystem that actually addresses the individual physical disks in a RAID array. The applications, OS, and driver do not. Since the OS only sees a single logical volume, utilities like Speedfan and Everest can't access the sensors on individual disks.

The first place I'd look would be management software for your RAID Controller. Many RAID controllers have at least rudimentary SMART support (they will warn you when the drive's SMART snesors predict failure) but often don't allow you to monitor the drive in real time.
 
well it's A-bit IC7/i875 ich5r - i dont think there's a lot of management soft for that.. :)
