I recently ran some Cat5e behind my walls from my attic to basement (about 70 feet) and I'm not sure if it's my computer or if it's the connection, but my internet is sucking it up. Is there any utility that I can set up on either side of the outlet (a computer in the attic and one in the basement) so they ping each other for hours on end to make sure the connection is solid? It has been for the first couple weeks, but now it might be breaking down. Any advice?

Well, you could just do a persistent ping from your computer to your router.

Code:
ping 192.168.1.1 -t

insert whatever your router's IP is

Let that run overnight. Hit Ctrl+C in the morning and you'll see the stats.

If you want devices, you can get very nice cable testers like the Fluke's, but they are seriously expensive. Like $2000-$10000.

Maybe you can try this program called Pingplotter?

I read up about it, seems like what you're looking for. It comes with some kind of graphical stats report IIRC.

Just transfer a large file and look at bandwidth consumed. If it meeds your needs for link speed, then its all good.
