Something's up with my borgs as well--Stanford has me down for 7 CPUs in the last 50 days and only 2 in the last week. Methinks it's about time for some VNC sessions....
 
Try restarting the client. Also, check the server status to see if the server's up.
 
I seem to have had a similar but slightly different problem.
Here is the output from my log

[07:34:01] + Attempting to get work packet
[07:34:01] - Connecting to assignment server
[07:34:02] Couldn't send HTTP request to server (wininet)
[07:34:02] + Could not connect to Assignment Server
[07:34:02] Couldn't send HTTP request to server (wininet)
[07:34:02] + Could not connect to Assignment Server 2
[07:34:02] + Couldn't get work instructions.

it never mentions anything about linux WU's. I had this happen to all of the 5 boxes i have running the consol client. However, none of my boxes running the GUI client had any problems. Was this an issue with only the consol version?

Also, a restart fixed it on all of my machines.
