I know this might not belong here although is pretty much related to video cards (+most users browse this part of the forums), I need help to decide on a good LCD display(the CRT fucks up my eyes ;/ ).
Here are my choices for now

http://www.achetezfacile.com/samsung-syncmaster-913n-comparer-les-prix-99629.html
http://www.benq.com/display/lcd_fp937s.html
http://www.achetezfacile.com/hyundai-imagequest-l90d--comparer-les-prix-98573.html

Has anyone experinced with these LCDs or maybe somebody can recommend a better one?
I'm looking for the best all around 19" LCD (meaning that I want quality picture, live colours, no shading, no fading text etc).
( If the mods feel this should be moved to another section please do so.)
P.S. I'm a gamer so this is the main reason I'm having a tough time finding what suits my needs.

A good crt with a high set refresh rate.
I have a preety good crt, it can make 1600x1024@85 Hz, but I'm using it at 1024x768@100 Hz (it's a 17" Crt).

I have a samsung syncmaster 172X, I'm really really happy with it. I'm running it with a 6800GT, and it's performing awesomely. It has a stated response time of 12ms, and I have absolutely no problems with any gaming or movie-watching. I know you said 19 inch, but I don't think Samsung makes an LCD with a better response time. That samsung 913N you provided a link to, it says 8ms, but I'm pretty sure that's not even the manufacturer's stated response time. If it is, by all means go for it. I'm pleased as punch with samsung LCD's in general I guess.

Hey, thanks for the response, I think it's time for a new display this crt is killing me after hours and hours of staying at it

go outside.

Not only it solves your problem, but it also is cheaper on your wallet than buying an LCD!!

That's not because of what you're using is a crt display. Seriously, take it from experience, I had the same problem. Sitting at the computer gaming or at work programming for extended periods of time, my eyes would slowly get more and more red, really red after a while. And it would start to feel like something was in my eyes, like dust or eyelashes or such. This was on my crt monitor at home and on my LCD monitor at work. It didn't matter if it was a crt or lcd.

What I realized (also was told) was that I wasn't blinking enough, which is normal when you stare at a monitor for extended periods of time. The moisture from my eyes was drying out, which makes the blood vessels in the eyes swell involuntarily to try to repair them, thus causing the redness.

The cure, which is not an lcd, is eyedrops or eye mist spray (not that kind that "gets the red out" as using that all the time is not good for your eyes, just get the moisturizer stuff). If you use it just 2-3 times a day, it works good.

I've been using it for the last couple of years.

With CRT monitors it also helps tremendously if you run a refresh rate of 120hz or better in 2D mode for eye strain.

Viewsonic just released a new one, get that it has like 8ms and is a best for the money on hardwarezone

His eyes would still be red and itch. An lcd isn't going to fix that.

With LCD monitors, the refresh rate doesnt really matter, as all it does is mess with the picture's sharpness. With LCD, the monitor doesn't have to refresh itself, so therefore the only thing you'll have to worry about is how sharp you like the picture.

Are you sure about that, I heard that it's a lot relaxing on the eyes, if not what's the reason for buying a LCD then? Just the space it frees by swaping the old CRT with it ?

Yes I'm sure. And that's why I don't have an lcd at home, I don't want one because the space it would save doesn't concern me and it wouldn't match the quality of my crt's picture.

Give my suggestion of the eye moisture drops/spray a try, it shouldn't cost you more than $2-$3. If it works, then you saved yourself a few hundred bucks.

Here's a secret most people don't know about crt and lcd monitors in the stores: Some, actually most, stores crank up the contrast/brightness/color/resolution on lcd monitors and turn all of that down on crt monitors, so the lcd monitors will stand out with a "Wow! affect" to the consumers shopping. And of course the store makes a lot more money selling the lcd vs. the crt monitors.

I was in Circuit City this weekend to buy a 19" crt monitor, and after 15 minutes of properly adjusting the monitor I was going to buy, then doing the same to a 19" lcd right next to it, the crt stood out with the better picture. The sales lady was trying to talk up the lcd previous to this, but when she returned after I did the adjusting, she was surprised (maybe pretending) and said something like "wow, I didn't know a crt could look that good." My crt monitor = $210 (not the best but very good), the lcd that was next to it = $600+.

Great respone, I guess I will go buy some anti-reflection glasses (there are some for people spending many hours in front of screens/radars etc), and I;m sticking to my CRT for now

"anti-reflection glasses" ?

Eye glasses, or something you put on your screen?

I'm sorry if I didn't explain it clear enough, I know there are some special lenses that help your eye muscles relax

Why didn't you post this in the display forum? I think it should be moved there. People there should be able to help you out too.

I'd also suggest you get/borrow/rent one of the video calibration dvds, such as Video Essentials or my preference, AVIA. They have a wealth of info, tests, and fairly easy ways to adjust your tv or monitor. The difference, when complete, make a huge improvement in image quality and probably would also help your eyes.

What video card are you using? (now this belongs in either forum).

I dunno. Maybe i'm superhuman or sormething, but I get virtually NO eyestrain when staring at my LCD all day. Heck, I've played FFXI and WoW for more than 8-hour stretches, and I still feel damn good. I can't do that with a CRT, though. To me, even at 100hz, CRT's fuck me up. I think an LCD would be a good buy, if you shop carefully.
