I'm reusing my plextor 24x burner for now, and monitor is taken care of as well. The plan was to get top of the line everything except for cpu/mobo/vid. While this sounds stupid, it will allow me to upgrade to dualcore socket 939 in the most efficient way possible, and since my old comp blew up (stupid psu), I can't wait anymore. And I'll have enough cooling to get a pretty freaking decent overclock. 5 Fans on the case, a panaflo on the thermalright heatsink, and ram that can go to 250mhz + should make me golden.

Anybody see anything wrong with my selections? Keep in mind, the vid card is only a semi temporary thing, as I don't want to go out and get a $400 card now, only to be screwed when I want to go socket939 w/ pci-e.

Cost of the system, for everything listed above (neons and everything), is a little under $1350 shipped.
 
PSU seems extravagant, and some people may say that the PSU is crap because it isn't a name brand, but I personally have no objections. The system itself looks good though.
 
Fortron is not a bad PSU, maybe a bit more power than you need though....

9800 Pro is a nice card, but I would suggest getting a 6800/6800 GT/x800 Pro if you can afford it

Since video card is just about the most important part of gaming systems now
 
hehe, fortron a no-name brand. That's pretty funny :)

You might want to go read the "power supplies" forum some time :) I'm going all out on the psu because I don't want to have to upgrade it for a long time. It comes with the next generation connectors etc, has very tight rail voltages, and will be great for overclocking.

As for the video card, like I said I plan on upgrading, and word on the street is that a radeon 9800pro will play farcry etc fine, so It'd do me for now.
 
I've seen those cases in person at some computer shows. My opinion is they're pretty shitty.
 
The PSU is a bit overkill, but other than that I think the system looks fine. And your 9800 pro should last you for a good while in that system.
 
Well I just ordered the system, with 1 change. I ended up not getting the case. I got an old beige enlight laying around, maybe I'll practice some modding on it :)
