After 3 days of assembling, taking apart, and going to hardware stores for extra components, my new C2D machine is finally up!
The case, Lian Li PC-S80, was very overrated as its wire management and space (lack of) left much to be desired. I got a typical e6600/p5w-dh set up, removed the aluminum covers off the mobo heatsinks and reseated them with as5, then placed a 40mm fan on the SB heatsink although it isnt an exact covering since the 7950GX2 was too big and wouldnt allow it.
Temps are still sorta high, but I'm pleased! OC'ed at 3ghz now =)
Anyways, here is my new baby!
Below is my efforts of wire management using zip ties and electrical tape to keep the mobo connectors on the case floor. NO MOBO TRAY = ARGH!
I know a few members recommended against getting a 750W PC&P psu, but what the hell....
The right side of the case, as you'll notice there isn't much space to route any wires behind here.... and you'll also notice that it isnt very easy to install anything into the external 5 1/2'' bays since you cant put your hand in here.
I don't know why Lian Li made this cover for the bay slots...fancy
Here is the 40mm I installed over the SB heatsink
I like this air duct...
The left side of the case all covered up with the foam-insulated boards
The Vantec PCI cooler I flipped upside down and placed over the backside of my GX2, keeps my CPU and GPU cool =)
All in all I would have very much preferred getting a different case for better cable management. If you'll notice in the pics there was really little to no clearance to work on the mobo especially getting those IDE cables on there. My biggest gripe is there was no mobo tray as I was constantly removing the PCI cards =/
Also, this case isn't the most efficient cooling case.
However, appearance-wise this case is beautiful, and with the back panel (not pictured) installed over the back of the case, it makes my 7950gx2 noise go away =)
Temps are currently:
48c Mobo
37c CPU
41c HDD's
