cheating online. 360 live vs. pc

Yea, it's gotten to the point where I can't even pub in CS anymore, People just say "wow nice walls" "nice bunnyhop script kid" and "nice aimbot" and just generally called a cheater and kicked/banned it seems like its just a defense mechanism. There are people that are just plain better than you, accept it.

for all you guys complaining about getting kicked from servers in source why don't you not play on noob servers cal-bad server. There are pubs that don't have retards on them. Going 60 and 5 against baddie using only the glock is fine but that is a paltry accomplishment compared to an ace in a cal match or dropping 30 in a half.

I have seen a few in my days, but not to the extent that you are making it out to be.

Imagine practicing Soccer for 3 years and then being thrown into a world cup game. Do you think you would do well? There are people who have been playing FPS's for well over 10 years, and the hours that you would put in each week, they may put that many in a day.

I havent cheated in a multiplayer game EVER! I have been playing FPS's for a very long time, I spend about 2 hours a week, and I am still loosing my edge a little at a time..

You know, a cheater can be defined as some one who uses a 3rd party app. and or uses uncommon game exploits that the makers never intended on to gain an unfair upper hand.

So some one who exploits a games mechanics can be a cheater.:D :p

Meh what do I care anyway, I'm a PC gamer.
I think proper term is "glitching." Taking advantage of game mechanics the designers didn't intend is called knowing how to play the game. Glitching on the other hand, such as taking advantage of clipping errors that allow you to shot from behind a wall or some other map error is clearly cheating.

Well that is very debatable.
The definition of cheating is more what each person says it is.
Example:
~In CS 1.6, Many maps you can throw flashbangs over walls...probably should not be able to, but that is used CPL and all leagues. Also shooting through certain walls is fine, now you must know if someone is there (lucky or knowing). So are those cheating? Someone new to the game might think so, but a player who has played & learned that will just same it is game mechanics.

The only rules in the game are the ones defined by the code, if there's overlooked code which people can use to gain an advantage it's not a cheat. In an ideal world the code should always represent the developers intent but due to human error doesn't always do so.

Without a statement from the coder about what their actual intent was you cannot claim that someone is exploiting a "bug" although it may be more obvious in some circumstance what was intended and what wasn't.

There is a large majorety of players now a days who are becoming real cry babies about this sort of thing, in the UT2004 community it's considered "ini hacking" to enter your ini files and change settings which are all client side (not server enforced), in the CS:S community it's considered "rate hacking" to change your rates to something really high or low and therefore use more or less bandwidth causing potential problems on servers.

The fact is, the only written rules are the code and EULA, which stipulates that no modification/addition should be made to game code to alter in-game rules.

Things like "ini hacking" and "rate hacking" are all things controlable by the servers, they can be set to reject people if their parameters don't fall within pre-set accepable standards, if you're seeing someone jerk around on your screen because he's "rate hacking" it means the server admin/owner is a moron who cannot setup his own server correctly.

Playing on a server with DECENT admins who maintain a 24/7 coverage is practically a universal answer to all online issues players have.

Oh yeah, and if you're thrashing newbs then man up a bit and join a server which is more appropriate for your skill level, people complain about cheaters because most of the time the cheaters lay the smackdown and own everyone (note the careful use of "most") to players who are only beginners, getting owned by self confessed "pro's" is not really a whole lot different to getting owned by cheaters from the point of view of the losers. Being a bad sport is just as bad as cheating IMO.

If you host a poker game on x360's "Texas Hold 'em"

You can get a bunch of money in the pot and hit the reset button on your router and it kicks everyone off your table and you get all the $$

OMG HACKER!!! :p

Your first example clearly is just knowing the game, the other sounds like I would need more detail (no, I have never been a CS fan). In my experience glitches have been very obvious not really debatable.

Example: In BF2 pre 1.41 patch you could have the commander drop a Vodnik on the roof just South of the Hotel flag. Another player could get in the Vodnik and if they drove it off the roof against the ally wall of the hotel flag just right it, the Vodnik would clip half way through the hotel wall, allowing the driver to exit the vehicle inside of the hotel. Other players could join him/her by entering exiting the vehicle before it blew up. Now these players could shot anyone around the hotel but because they were behind a wall could not be shot or seen.

The above example is clearly glitching and a cheat. Its a not an example of taking the game mechanics to a new level the game designers didn't intend such as, to continue the BF2 example, C-4 chucking, dolphin diving, prone spamming, etc.

So yes, there are some examples of cheating that do not include using programs. Fortunately they are generally very limited and in at least in PC games, are able to be fixed with a patch. There is a reason these sort of exploits are banned from competitive play.;) Where as knowing the game mechanics is not.

i like to see FPS teams play in LAN tournaments. Thats when you get to see the great players in real life and see how crazy some people can be at these games without cheating.

QFT. That's when you realize that the people whippin' your ass are just really good...not to mention the fact that as clanmates who play together all the time, they know exactly what it means to be a team and how to work together.

So you're proving that cheats exist. What an amazing discovery.

What is the point of cheating online.. I just dont get it.. GEZZ!

Most use them to just piss people off. They have fun with it for awhile, but eventually get bored or get banned.

And after playing UT, UT2k3 and 2k4 for years, I've only seen a handful of botters and radars in my time. And actually, most of those happen in the Atari Official Deathmatch demo server that doesnt run any kind of protection against hacks, plus nobody cares about those servers. ;D

Yep, the official Atari servers are the worst. I've been playing UT for a long time..since 2000..and I can usually tell quickly if somebody is using a bot. I've come across people using bots several times over the years in matches. Even so, the majority of the people in the UT community don't cheat...at least not on the servers I play on, they're just really good players. Just stay away from the Atari servers because they're bot central.

Pretty much. It's normally someone who played, sucked, thought other good people were hacking, so they thought to get even THEY need to get hacks. And then the other people who hack are the ones who get off on pissing other people off.

Back in my cs1.6 days I read a few interviews that game sites had with the top cheat creators and it's exactly that. They make the cheats because they can, and don't care about a balanced game. It's really pathetic. Oh well, good news is we'll never have to worry about those kinds of poor bastards fighting for jobs in the real world. They're the ones who live in the parents' basement for eternity.
