Hey all, this is my first post on these forums although I've been a longtime OCP fan. So just introducing myself.. name's Dan, college student, do some part time security camera installs.. I've got a nice AMD64 rig with X800XL, 1GB Corsair XMS-Pro, 300 GB SATA, 80 GB IDE, DVD-RW ... real simple stuff... now onto business:

My question is this, what or where can I find the cheapest possible computer which would need 3 thigns, a large harddrive -- maybe 80-150GB, ethernet, and a fast enough processor to simply run one program?

I've gotten quotes for 350ish.. but I feel like there may be cheaper out there.. if anyone knows of someone who could put together a computer like this, or knows of a company selling barebones like this. that'd be great.. furthermore, it won't be just one purchase, we're using barebones as part of our security camersa systems as recorders/transmitters so depending on the # of contracts this summer it could be 10 or 30 systems needed.. anyway, if anyone has any good tips or can point me in the direction of a nice CHEAP system builder that'd be great :)

I got a Sempron 2400, 256mb ram, cd-rom, 40gig Western Digital, onboard audio, video and nic for $150. It's the store brand "Great Quality". The pc comes in a small black case. Runa pretty quiet too.

nope, sadly no fry's electronics.. though i may contact them and possibly work out a deal to have them shipped to me in NY... thanks for the info though :) anyone else have any good links?
 
Look for one of those bargin eMachines at CC or BB. I also possess the aforementioned "Great Quality" items from Outpost.com that runs great (1 year old; purchased for $129 + shipping).
 
do you need a monitor or not?

i would say dell, and cheapios from BB, CC. Or try newegg for a cheap bundle.

LOL. I took that pic when I disassembled the pc to do some wire managment. I put in a generic 80mm exhaust fan after the fact and it ran pretty quiet. I wouldnt even have need one if I hadnt oc'ed that Sempron from 1.67ghz to 2.0ghz. :D
